Jordan Brand is setting up a major crossover between basketball heritage and tennis history this summer. The Air Jordan 7 “Tennis Day,” a special edition sneaker heavily inspired by tennis legend Andre Agassi, is scheduled to release on September 9, 2026, coinciding with the final stages of the US Open.
While the Air Jordan 7 is famously tied to Michael Jordan’s 1992 championship run and the “Dream Team,” this new edition is clearly tennis inspired. The design draws direct inspiration from Agassi’s iconic Nike Air Tech Challenge II, a shoe that defined 1990s tennis culture with its rebellious aesthetic and vibrant colors.
Design and Colorway
The full details for the “Tennis Day” edition is not yet out but the speculative mock-ups (image on top) features a bold palette designed to mimic the neon-drenched gear Agassi used to wear on court. According to early reports the sneaker will feature:
- Colors: A mix of Phantom, Lemon Twist, Pink Blast, and Anthracite.
- Signature Details: Expected “paint splatter” graphics on the midsole, a direct nod to the famous “Hot Lava” colorway of the Air Tech Challenge II.
- Materials: A premium blend of leather and synthetic overlays, maintaining the classic AJ7 silhouette while adopting a “90s tennis” vibe.
Release Details
The release is strategically timed for the US Open, where we usually see a lot of new collections and fashion collabs.

A Legacy Reimagined
This isn’t the first time Jordan Brand has looked to the tennis world. In recent years, stars like Frances Tiafoe have worn custom Jordans on court, and the “Tennis Day” AJ7 marks a formal bridge between the legacies of Michael Jordan and Andre Agassi.
The Air Jordan 7’s original designer, Tinker Hatfield, was also responsible for many of Agassi’s most famous Nike trainers, making this collaboration a natural evolution for collectors who appreciate ’90s sports history.
