Veterans Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev both captured ATP titles on Saturday, ending significant droughts and breathing new life into their seasons on the European clay swing.
Tsitsipas Breaks 16-Month Drought in Gstaad
Tsitsipas captured his 13th career title at the Swiss Open Gstaad, defeating Raphaël Collignon in the final after three consecutive three-set matches. This victory ends his longest wait between ATP titles since becoming a consistent tour contender, his last title came in Dubai in March 2025.
Tsitsipas required all three sets in the championship match, surviving a second-set loss to win 6-4, 6-7, 6-3. He finished the decisive third set by winning 11 of 12 first-serve points, showing the kind of serving dominance he’ll need more of going forward.
The former world No. 3 had not reached an ATP final in 16 months, making this victory significant for his confidence and ranking trajectory heading into the second half of the season.
“I played some crazy matches in the past couple of days… Every single match felt like It was never finished and somehow I managed to convert every single time and get the victory.” the Greek commented after the match.
Rublev Triumphs at Nordea Open Båstad
Andrey Rublev captured his own title at the Nordea Open in Båstad on the same day, also breaking a title drought with a very strong performance on the slow Swedish clay. The Russian proved that his aggressive baseline game and solid forehand remains dangerous on the red surface, navigating through a quite competitive field.
“I feel great. To be able to win here for a second time is a special feeling, I can’t say much because I just finished my match and I’m still feeling the adrenaline.” Rublev said after clinching the trophy, and seemed very happy.
This was Rublev’s 18th ATP Tour title.
