The Indian Wells 2025 ATP event, officially known as the BNP Paribas Open, is one of the biggest tennis tournaments outside the Grand Slams. It’s a Masters 1000 event but sometimes called the “fifth Grand Slam,” and one of our favorite tournaments of the year.
Hereโs some useful information and tips for the Indian Wells ATP in March 2025.
When Does It Happen?
The 2025 BNP Paribas Open runs from March 2 to March 16 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California, USA. Qualifying rounds kick off on 2-4 March, with the main draw starting on 5th March. The menโs singles final is set for Sunday, March 16.
When Is the Draw?
The draw for the main event will take place on Monday, March 3rd, 2025, at 15:00 PST (or at midnight CET). This is when weโll find out the matchups for the 96-player singles field.
Prize Money
The total prize money for the 2025 event hasnโt been fully confirmed yet, we will update here once we have the complete numbers. Based on recent years, itโs expected to be around $9 million for the ATP side, and the same for the women’s event.
In 2024, the singles champion took home $1,100,000, with the runner-up earning $585,000. Early-round players and qualifiers also get a solid payout, with first-round losers in the main draw earning about $30,000 last year. Expect slightly higher figures for 2025.

Players to Watch
The Indian Wells ATP field usually always attracts the best in the game. Top stars confirmed for 2025 include:
- Novak Djokovic: One of few legends still playing, chasing a record sixth title at Indian Wells.
- Carlos Alcaraz: The defending champion, looking to repeat his 2023 and 2024 victories.
- Alexander Zverev: World No. 2 and a consistent contender. Still without a Slam though…
- Taylor Fritz: The 2022 champion and the American hope.
Young talents like Jakub Mensik and Alex Michelsen joining the mix. Also looking forward to see Matteo Berrettini, Jack Draper and Arthur Fils. Other big names expected include Alex de Minaur, Andrey Rublev, and Casper Ruud.
For the WTA we’ll also see most of the top ranked players including world no 1 Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, recent Australian Open champion Madison Keys and Coco Gauff.
Jannik Sinner Missing Out
One big absence this year is of course Jannik Sinner, the 2025 Australian Open champ. Heโs serving a 3 month ban for his recent doping saga and will miss all tournaments ahead of the Rome Masters.
Favorites to Win
With Sinner out, the favorites shift slightly:
- Carlos Alcaraz: As defending champ, his speed and power on hard courts make him a top pick.
- Novak Djokovic: His experience and 50-9 record at Indian Wells are hard to beat. Will he remain injury free though?
- Alexander Zverev: A deep run is likely if he brings his A-game.
The Venue
The tournament takes place at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, a world-class facility in Indian Wells, California. It features 29 hard courts, including Stadium 1 (16,100 seats, the second-largest tennis stadium globally) and Stadium 2 (8,000 seats). Located in the Coachella Valley near Palm Springs, itโs a scenic desert spot perfect for tennis.
Defending Champion
Carlos Alcaraz is the man to beat. The young Spaniard won in 2024 (and in 2023), beating Daniil Medvedev 7-6, 6-1 in the final. Can he make it three in a row in 2025?
Iga Swiatek is the defending women’s champion as she captured theย Indian Wellsย title last year without dropping a set, joining a great team of players to have won twoย Indian Wellsย titles.ย
