The 2025 Rio Open final, set for Sunday, February 23rd, should be a great clash on the clay courts of the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro, as defending champion Sebastian Baez takes on the in-form Alexandre Muller.
Sebastian Baez, ranked no 31 in the world, is a well known clay court master and having won the title here in 2024, Baez will now try to become the first player to win the Rio Open twice. He has 6 ATP titles in total and 5 of them is on clay.
The 24-year-old Argentine has had a fairly easy draw, taking out these players on the way to the final: Roman Andres Burruchaga, Mariano Navone, Chun-Hsin Tseng and Camilo Ugo Carabelli. His game and normal rhythm seem very solid though. So far he only lost two sets, one of them in the semi-final on Saturday where he came back strong with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 win against Camilo Ugo Carabelli.
Alexandre Muller is one of the most in-form players on tour at the moment and following a poor start to the year, the Frenchman has eliminated some strong opponents this week. He surprised in the first round by beating upcoming talent Joao Fonseca and continued with victories against Tomas Martin Etcheverry, Francisco Cerundolo and Francisco Comesana to reach the final.
The world no 60 is looking to be the first Frenchman to win the Rio Open.
Predictions and Odds
Seeing the odds, Baez is the favorite among sportsbooks at 1.53 (or -187.5) while a victory for Muller gives 2.50 (or +150).
H2H? ThIs will be the first meeting between Baez and Muller.
This is an interesting clash and it might be more tight than the odds imply here. Baez enjoys it on clay and this has to be considered his favorite tournament. His forehand has been strong all week and it will take a lot from Muller to counter Baez here. Following a very tough semifinal (almost 3 hours), will the Frenchman have the energy needed against a strong baseline player that don’t mind grinding down his opponents?
Muller has to rely a lot on his serve and with his current form, nothing seem impossible, however…
Our prediction: Baez to win his second Rio Open. A 2-1 set betting wager gives a great odds of 3.75 (or +275).
