Only four players to go at the men’s 2025 Roland Garros event and none of them are a big surprise to be honest. World no 1 Jannik Sinner faces Novak Djokovic in a semifinal match on Friday that should be interesting, and hopefully a bit more exciting than most of the Italian’s clashes recently.
A place in the French Open final is up for grabs and the question is if anyone can stop Sinner in his current form. In the other semifinal on Friday, Lorenzo Musetti takes on favorite Carlos Alcaraz. Let’s look at some news and predictions ahead of this clash.
Djokovic vs Sinner
Djokovic, the 38-year-old Serbian legend, has made a strong comeback from a poor start to the season. His French Open run has been clinical, dropping just one set. He started with straight-set wins over Mackenzie McDonald, Corentin Moutet and Filip Misolic. In the fourth round, he dispatched Cameron Norrie 6-2, 6-3, 6-2, marking his 100th Roland Garros win. Against world no 3 Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals, Djokovic rallied from a set down to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4, hitting 43 drop shots (30 won) and surviving a 41-shot rally.
Djokovic thrives in moments like this and loves the big stage, but he’s up for a massive challenge against the best in the world.
Jannik Sinner, the top seed, looks unstoppable is this run where he’s seeking his first French Open title. Heโs yet to drop a set in Paris, and seem to be crushing most of his opponents. The last one to be defeated was in-form Alexander Bublik, who at least put up a fight in one set, but eventually lost in straight sets as well.
Head-to-Head
The head-to-head is tied at 4-4, with Sinner winning the last three (ATP Shanghai, Australian Open and the Davis Cup finals). Djokovicโs only win, and the only time they’ve met on clay courts, was in Monte-Carlo 2021 (Djokovic won 6-4, 6-2).
Odds and Predictions for Djokovic v Sinner
Looking at the odds, Sinner is big favorite at odds 1.23 (-450) vs Djokovic at 4.50 or +350.
The Serb has really found the form for this Slam and he’s more likely to disturb Sinner on clay than hard-court but I cannot see Sinner lose this one. He will not let Djokovic get into his rhythm from the baseline like Zverev did in the quarters, and Sinners improvement on clay has been great.
I think he can overpower the 38-year-old on most occasions. Sinner is also clearly on top looking at their last played matches in their h2h on tour.
It’s tricky with Djokovic though, he’s one of the best tacticians of the game and dangerous in 5-setters (also look out for his drop shots), he will test Sinner in many ways.
“These kind of matchups and challenges in a way extract the best out of me,” Djokovic said about the Sinner-match.
