2025 National Bank Open, Round of 16
The 2025 National Bank Open in Toronto delivers an exciting round of 16 clash on Sunday, August 3, as No. 19 seed Jiri Lehecka takes on No. 2 seed Taylor Fritz on Centre Court.
Here’s a quick look at their form, head-to-head and our predictions for Lehecka vs Fritz.
Jiri Lehecka (World No. 27) is finding the form in Toronto, beating Mackenzie McDonald 6-2, 6-4 and outlasting No. 15 seed Arthur Fils 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a good third-round performance. With a 28-15 record in 2025, including a Brisbane title, Lehecka’s 14-6 hard-court mark and 12 aces against Fils show his power, though his 45% second-serve win rate could possibly be a concern.
Taylor Fritz (World No. 4) is in top form, and even though he’s not at the level of Sinner and Alcaraz, he has shown he can go deep in major tournaments and it’s of course the US Open that is his big goal the coming weeks. In Toronto, he cruised past Roberto Carballes Baena 7-5, 7-6(1) and No. 27 seed Gabriel Diallo 6-4, 6-2, hitting 10 aces against Diallo. Fritz has a 29-12 season record, including Stuttgart and Eastbourne titles, and 15-4 hard-court mark.
Head-to-Head
Fritz leads 3-0, all in 2023: United Cup (6-4, 6-4), Monte-Carlo (4-6, 6-4, 6-3), and Cincinnati (7-6(14), 6-2), with two wins on hard courts. Lehecka has yet to find an answer to Fritz’s consistency, but with his recent form it will be interesting to see if he can push closer this time.
Odds and Predictions
- Moneyline: Lehecka +220 (3.20) | Fritz -278 (1.36)
- Game Spread: Lehecka +3.5 (1.68) | Fritz -3.5 (2.11)
- Total Games: Over 23.5 (1.96) | Under 23.5 (1.79)
Prediction and Best Bet
Fritz’s head-to-head edge and hard-court dominance make him the favorite, also clearly seen among the tennis betting sites. Lehecka has shown his level plenty of times, both recently here in Canada and previously on tour, but I think this is not the best matchup for him. The American’s cleaner play and better consistency should see him through here and we think he will go 4 matches up in their h2h.
Prediction: Fritz to win the match, but don’t feel confident enough that he will cover the -3.5 hcp.
