Alexander Zverev has secured the ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF honour for the first time in his career, capping a fantastic 2026 season in which he won his maiden Grand Slam titles at Roland-Garros and the US Open.
The German’s achievement was confirmed following Carlos Alcaraz’s surprise defeat to Zizou Bergs at the Shanghai Masters. With Jannik Sinner also ruled out for the remainder of the season through injury, Zverev has built an unassailable lead in the race to finish the year at the top of the PIF ATP Rankings.
Zverev becomes the first German man to finish a season as year-end No. 1. While Boris Becker previously reached the top of the rankings during the season, he never finished a calendar year in that position.
A Dream Season Realized
“It’s been a fantastic season for me winning in Paris and New York and knowing that I will finish the year on top of the rankings is just a dream come true,” Zverev told the ATP Tour.
After years of coming close at the Grand Slams, Zverev finally broke through in 2026, winning his first major title at Roland-Garros before adding the US Open crown. He also reached the Wimbledon final, further underlining his consistency across the biggest tournaments.
His achievements mark a significant turnaround for the 29-year-old, who has worked his way back from the serious ankle injury he suffered during the 2022 French Open.
Making History
Zverev will become the oldest player to finish a season as year-end No. 1 for the first time, at 29 years and 217 days old when the rankings are finalised on November 23. He surpasses the previous marks set by Andre Agassi and Andy Murray.
He also joins an exclusive group of active players to have achieved the distinction, alongside Djokovic, Alcaraz and Sinner.
