The legendary Nordea Open returns to Båstad, Sweden for its 78th men’s edition and Tennisnerd will be there watching again. Defending champion Luciano Darderi seeks back-to-back titles while World No. 13 Andrey Rublev and returning Grigor Dimitrov headline an interesting clay-court field.

Players to watch
Darderi’s title defense
Luciano Darderi arrives in Båstad as the defending champion following his victory over Jesper de Jong last year, that launched his career to new heights, and he’s returning with a target on his back.
Darderi’s clay-court game is distinctive: heavy topspin groundstrokes, baseline pressure and emotional intensity that the crowds usually enjoys.
The challenge for Darderi is clear: Båstad clay-courters are unpredictable and former champions often struggle in return visits.
Rublev the highest-ranked player
Andrey Rublev enters as the tournament’s highest-ranked player (World No. 13) and carries momentum. The Russian’s 2026 season has been solid rather than spectacular, decent runs at majors but no titles yet. His record on clay stands at 11-5 this year, and he had a strong showing at Roland Garros.
Dimitrov’s comeback
Another storyline is of course the one of Grigor Dimitrov. The veteran Bulgarian was scheduled to play Båstad in 2025 but suffered a devastating pectoral injury at Wimbledon while leading against Jannik Sinner 6-3, 7-5, 2-2 in the quarterfinals, a match many believed he could have won.
For months, Dimitrov was sidelined, but has shown at Wimbledon that his form is back to great levels again!
Dimitrov has won nine career ATP titles, his talent and experience could challenge anyone in the draw.

The Nordea Open (Swedish Open) has been held since 1948, making it one of professional tennis’s longest-running tournaments.
Magnus Gustafsson holds the all-time record with four Båstad titles. Recent champions include Casper Ruud, Fabio Fognini, Nicolas Jarry and now Darderi, many of them serious clay specialists.
The tournament famously sits just after Wimbledon on the calendar and this unique scheduling means the field is often more diverse in quality and approach than pure clay-court specialists events.
This is a tournament we recommend to visit at least ones, with it’s nice location, intimate setting and quite passionate crowds. Check our Instagram for some updates and photos during the event.
