The 2026 US Open has announced a total prize purse of $108 million, marking a decent 20 percent increase from 2025. The men’s and women’s singles champions will each earn $5.5 million, continuing the tournament’s commitment to equal pay across genders.

A $5.5 million singles title is a great cheque to collect for the singles winner. The real competitive value emerges in the lower rounds though. A player losing in the opening round still earns $140,000. A quarterfinalist takes home $780,000. These figures matter significantly for mid-tier professionals building careers outside the Top 10.

Alcaraz is back to defend his title

The 20 percent increase reflects inflation and tournament expansion – prize pools must grow to remain attractive as costs rise elsewhere. It’s not enough though, according to the players that has been protesting these amounts at several occasions this year.

Carlos Alcaraz is back from his wrist injury and will try to defend his 2025 title, his form is highly unknown at this time though. On the women’s side, Sabalenka is the defending champion, and there are certainly question marks also about her form looking at some recent results. Should be a great US Open to follow!
