Nordicdots Model 99 G2

Nordicdots is back with an update to their first racquet, their Model 99. And here we are with an in-depth Nordicdots Model 99 G2 Review.

Introduction

The Nordicdots Model 99 G2 is not just an update—it’s a reset. Where Generation 1 flirted with innovation (and occasionally frustration), Generation 2 lands with a much clearer identity. This is a modern control-oriented spin racquet with a premium, almost pro stock-like layup—something that has become a signature for Nordicdots.

After extensive playtesting – both from high-level players and dedicated tennis nerds – the consensus is clear: this is the brand’s most refined frame to date.

You can check out our video review below.

Specs & First Impressions

  • Head size: 99 sq in
  • String pattern: 16×20 (plays more like 16/19)
  • Weight: ~300g unstrung
  • Swingweight: 295 unstrung
  • Beam: modern, slightly rounded
  • Flex: medium-flex with plush response

Right out of the box, the attention to detail stands out. Nordicdots continues to deliver one of the best direct-to-consumer experiences in tennis: matched specs, premium packaging, included strings, and consistency that most legacy brands still struggle to provide.

Cosmetically, the G2 leans into a clean, Scandinavian aesthetic—minimalist, modern, and refreshingly different without being loud.

What’s New vs Generation 1?

nordicdots

Generation 1 had personality—arguably too much. Its progressive string pattern and unconventional head shape created moments of brilliance… but also inconsistency.

Generation 2 fixes that:

  • More uniform string spacing ? predictable response
  • More traditional head shape ? easier visual alignment
  • Higher launch angle ? easier access to spin
  • Improved feel consistency across the stringbed

The result?
A racquet that does what you expect, when you expect it, which is what most players who want a control racquet look for.

On-Court Performance

Baseline — Spin-Friendly Control

This is where the Model 99 G2 shines.

The first thing you notice is the launch angle. It sits in the same conversation as frames like the Babolat Pure Aero 98 or Head Gravity Tour 98—meaning:

  • Easy net clearance
  • Heavy topspin potential
  • Aggressive shape on the ball

Despite the 16×20 pattern, it plays closer to a 16×19. The spacing is open enough to generate RPMs effortlessly, yet controlled enough to keep the ball inside the lines.

You can:

  • Roll heavy crosscourt forehands
  • Hit deep, kicking backhands
  • Dictate with shape rather than flat pace

However, if you’re a flat hitter, you may need to adjust. The ball wants to lift—sometimes more than expected.

Feel — Pro Stock DNA

This is arguably the standout feature.

The G2 has that elusive “connected” feel:

  • Plush without being mushy
  • Flexible without losing stability
  • Responsive without harshness

Several testers compared it to pro stock frames (think H22-style layups), and that’s not an exaggeration. The feedback is clean, and when you find the sweet spot, the reward is immediate.

This is not a hollow, modern tweener feel. This is old-school quality with modern spin.

Power & Control Balance

The Model 99 G2 sits in a very interesting middle ground:

  • More power than classic control frames like a Wilson Blade 98
  • More control than pure spin frames like the Babolat Pure Aero

You get:

  • Free depth when accelerating
  • Confidence to swing out
  • Enough margin thanks to spin

It’s not a “free power” racquet—but it rewards commitment.

Stability & Net Play

One of the surprises is how solid this racquet feels at net.

  • Excellent on volleys
  • Stable on slices
  • Clean response on touch shots

Even players used to denser 18×20 patterns appreciated how predictable and firm it felt on continental shots.

Maneuverability

Despite my asking for a close to 330-strung swing weight, it swings fast.

  • Whippy through contact
  • Easy to accelerate for spin
  • Slightly aerodynamic feel

This makes it particularly appealing for:

  • Players who like to shape the ball
  • Players who hit with racquet head speed

Who Is It For?

nordicdots model 99 g2

Ideal for:

  • Intermediate to advanced players
  • Heavy topspin hitters
  • Players who like Blade / Gravity / Aero hybrids
  • Those who value feel and customization

Not ideal for:

  • Flat hitters seeking low launch precision
  • Beginners wanting easy power
  • Players who prefer very stiff, modern frames

Comparisons

  • vs Blade 98 More spin, more power, slightly less pinpoint control
  • vs Pure Aero 98 More feel, less raw explosiveness
  • vs Gravity Tour Perhaps the most similar frame, the 99 has a bit more pop.
  • vs Nordicdots Model 100 More spin, slightly less “automatic” control
  • vs Nordicdots 98 Pro Higher launch, more forgiving, less surgical

The Verdict

The Nordicdots Model 99 G2 is the racquet that finally realizes the potential of the 99 line.

It takes:

  • The plush, pro stock-inspired feel
  • The custom-focused philosophy
  • The modern spin characteristics

…and combines them into a coherent, versatile performance frame.

It’s not for everyone—no Nordicdots racquet is—but for the right player, it offers something rare:

A modern spin racquet with classic feel and genuine personality

  1. I’ve purchased this frame during the presale (whilst desperatly awaiting your review;) ) just because in theory alone it seemed like the perfect do-it-all-frame to me. Didn’t regret it! I do have a rather old-school and flat offensive game style (Blades, Percepts, and in older times Radicals, Pro Staffs and Prestiges in my bag) and at least for me personally I can say: It still works even while flattening out IF you are really committing to your shot (similar to the Gravity Tour 98 in my experience). For neutral shots or even in defence the net clearance helped me to stay in the rallies with easy depth and very controlled slices (needed with my obh)! Absolute recommendation. The feel is amazing as is the customer experience…. Not to mention the looks ;) (black gloss of course)!

  2. Appreciate your work but in gernal there is still a need to check AI-written/transcribed texts for style and errors.
