Bio and Career – Shintaro Mochizuki

Born on June 2nd, 2003 in Kawasaki, Japan, Shintaro Mochizuki is one of Japan’s most exciting young tennis prospects. A right-handed player known for his consistency and all-court game, his career has developed well from junior excellence to the ATP main tour.

Mochizuki reportedly first picked up a tennis racquet at a very young age. Around age 12, he won a selection for the Masaaki Morita Tennis Fund and moved to train in the U.S., including time at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. His junior career peaked when he won the 2019 Wimbledon Boys Singles, becoming the first Japanese male to claim a Grand Slam junior singles title.

Professional Career Highlights

Mochizuki turned professional in 2019 and made his ATP main draw debut as a wildcard at the 2021 Singapore Tennis Open and shortly after played the Miami Open (his first Masters 1000 event)

A noteworthy breakthrough came at the 2023 Japan Open, where he upset top-seed Taylor Fritz and advanced to his first ATP semifinal. On the Challenger Tour, he has claimed two singles titles: the 2023 Barletta Challenger (clay) and the 2025 Nouméa Challenger (hard).
