Benjamin Bonzi is a previous top 50 player from France, but what is Bonzi’s current racquet and gear?
What racquet is Benjamin Bonzi using?
Benjamin Bonzi is using the Wilson Steam 99 painted like a Blade 98 V9. The Steam 99 is now re-released as the Wilson Ultra Pro 99 and the release has been well received.
Bonzi string his racquets with a poly in the mains and natural gut in the crosses. I am unsure about racquet specifications or string tension. If you happen to know more about Bonzi’s racquet, please feel free to comment below.
UPDATE: In Cincinnati Masters 2025, Bonzi is actually playing with the Ultra Pro 99 cosmetic, so if you want to get Bonzi’s racquet, that is the one for you. We have a video review of this racquet on our YouTube channel.
Bio and Career
Bonzi was born June 9th, 1996, in Nîmes, France, and began playing tennis at 6 years old as he lived just next to a tennis court.
Bonzi turned pro in 2015 after a promising junior career, highlighted by winning the 2014 French Open boys doubles title alongside Quentin Halys. His early years were spent grinding on the ITF Futures and ATP Challenger circuits. In 2021, Bonzi made history by capturing six Challenger titles in a single season, joining an elite group of players like Mikhail Youzhny and Juan Ignacio Chela. This run got him into the top 100, debuting at No. 95 in August 2021 and climbing to No. 61 by year-end.
His ATP Tour breakthrough came in 2022, when he reached his first semifinal at the Open 13 Provence in Marseille. That same year, he made his mark at the Indian Wells Masters, reaching the third round, and at the Mallorca Championships, where he defeated Denis Shapovalov to reach another semifinal. In 2023, Bonzi reached two ATP finals in Pune and Marseille but fell short of the title, losing to Tallon Griekspoor and Hubert Hurkacz, respectively.
His persistence paid off in 2024 when he claimed his maiden ATP title at the Moselle Open as a qualifier, defeating Casper Ruud and Cameron Norrie in a stunning 14-match winning streak that included two Challenger titles in Roanne and Saint-Brieuc.
What about the Grand Slams? Bonzi has shown flashes of brilliance in Grand Slams, with third-round appearances at the Australian Open (2023, 2025) and US Open (2023). His standout moment came at Wimbledon 2025, where he upset former semifinalist Daniil Medvedev in the first round in a thrilling four-setter, marking his second top-10 win. His best doubles result was a quarterfinal run at the 2023 Australian Open with Arthur Rinderknech.
Currently ranked 63, with a career high rank of 42 (from 2023), Benjamine has one ATP singles title, eight Challenger titles, three ITF titles, one ATP doubles title (2021 Mallorca) and a 2-6 Top 10 record.
