Heavy hand sweat can be frustrating if you’re a tennis player. Your racket starts to slip, your grip changes mid-shot, and suddenly you don’t trust your two-handed backhand or serve anymore. I’ve been trying out some overgrips in match play over the last few months to find that sweet spot of sweat absorption, durability and feel. The best overgrips for sweaty hands are sticky when wet (sticky grips) or soak up moisture like a paper (dry grips).
So, in order, here are the 5 overgrips I recommend for sweaty hands, based on what I have found to work best in hot, humid conditions and during long match sessions.
| Rank | Overgrip | Best for | Main appeal |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Yonex Super Grap | Players wanting tackiness with sweat resistance and durability | Tour-level tackiness, lasts 10x more than Tourna. |
| 2 | Tourna Grip Original | Players with extremely sweaty hands or hot/humid conditions | Ultimate sweat absorption, dry feel, becomes grippier with sweat. |
| 3 | Wilson Pro Overgrip | Players wanting overall performance with sweat absorption | Federer’s choice, tacky with excellent moisture absorption. |
| 4 | Head Prime Tour | Players wanting overall performance with value | Same as Wilson Pro, better price, Japanese quality. |
| 5 | Solinco Hyper Grip | Players wanting feel with some sweat absorption | Thin, textured, keeps tack over time. |
1. Yonex Super Grap
Yonex Super Grap is the best grip on tour and consistently praised by the pros. Does not slip when you sweat, feels good in your hand and remains tacky when you sweat so the racket does not slip out of your hand. Super Grap lasts 2-3 days even in 6-7 hours of competitive tennis matches in humid weather.
After years of Tourna, I switched to Super Grap and wow — it absorbs sweat really good for a grip that’s not sold as “dry”, and it lasts at least twice as much as others. It costs more but also looks like it lasts 10x longer than Tourna.
Specs:
- Type: Tacky, moisture-resistant
- Feel: Tacky, comfortable, molds to hand
- Best for: Players wanting tackiness with sweat absorption
- Durability: 10+ hours, 2–3 days in humid conditions

2. Tourna Grip Original Dry Feel
If your palms get sweaty, Tourna Grip is the gold standard. It’s the original dry-feel overgrip that was introduced in the 70s and is still the most popular overgrip on the market for players who sweat a lot or play in very humid places. It doesn’t feel tacky, quite the opposite in fact, but the more you sweat the grippier it becomes. It is great in hot and humid conditions and gives you a dry feeling that prevents sweaty hands well.
I have used Tourna Grip for years and it is still the one I trust in the tournament finals. The only real downside is how long it lasts, you get about 3 matches out of it depending on humidity, but for sweaty hands it’s unmatched.
Specs:
- Type: Dry, non-tacky
- Feel: Paper-like, absorbent, dry
- Best for: Players with extremely sweaty hands or hot/humid conditions
- Durability: ~3 matches in humid conditions
3. Wilson Pro Overgrip
The Wilson Pro is Roger Federer’s favorite and tops many community lists for all-around performance. It is pretty tacky (not sticky like other overgrips) and absorbs moisture very well. In normal British summer weather in matches of three sets or so the tack is consistent throughout.
I’ve tried Wilson Pro on a few racquets and always come back to it for reliable all round performance. The way your hands start sweating and the grip change is really impressive. If you have crazy sweaty palms, it might be worth looking at something with extreme absorbance, but for most sweaty-hand players, Wilson Pro does the job.
Specs:
- Type: Tacky, moisture-absorbing
- Feel: Tacky, cushioned, comfortable
- Best for: Players wanting overall performance with sweat absorption
- Durability: 10–12 hours
4. Head Prime Tour Overgrip
Head Prime Tour is similar to Wilson Pro and Yonex Super Grap with very subtle differences but many say it is the best overgrip on the market in terms of overall performance to price. It will be a good choice for players that want moisture absorption with a nice tacky feel and good absorbency.
I’ve got about 8 hours on it with one Prime Tour overgrip. The first 2 hours it was very tacky and comfortable with no hand discomfort.
Specs:
- Type: Tacky, moisture-absorbing
- Feel: Tacky, soft, durable
- Best for: Players wanting overall performance with value
- Durability: 8+ hours
5. Solinco Hyper Grip
Solinco Hyper Grip is a weird blend of tack and absorption. It tends to be thinner than your average overgrip so it’s for players that want a little more feel and texture. Has a soft feel with good tack and maintains tacky feel through time and use. I sweat a lot and these grips stop my hands from slipping.
The only downside is some players don’t like the added texture and if you have really sweaty hands or are in really hot conditions they can get a bit overwhelmed and become a little slippy. But other than that it’s a great grip with feel and texture.
Specs:
- Type: Tacky with absorption
- Feel: Felty, sticky, textured
- Best for: Players wanting feel with some sweat absorption
- Durability: Moderate
Other Notables to Consider
If you want more than these five, there are a few other overgrips to try out. Solinco Heaven Grip is absorbent and durable. The surface is perforated and slightly ribbed for tactile dimension and good moisture absorption. If you want a mix of feel and sweat control, this is a good choice.
MSV Cyber Wet is for players with very sweaty hands. It is a dry, ultra absorbent overgrip that becomes grippier as the sweat builds up. Like Tourna but with a different texture. Worth a shot for serious sweaters.
Another moisture absorption focused dry feel overgrip is Dunlop U-Sweat. It’s solid and like paper and designed to be slip-resistant even when it’s humid. If you love Tourna but want something with a little more durability, U-Sweat is a solid alternative.
Final verdict
If I were ranking overgrips for sweaty hands based on match play performance, sweat absorption, and durability, I’d put them in this order:
- Yonex Super Grap for tackiness with sweat resistance and durability.
- Tourna Grip Original for extreme sweat absorption and dry feel.
- Wilson Pro Overgrip for overall performance with sweat absorption.
- Head Prime Tour for overall performance with value.
- Solinco Hyper Grip for feel with some sweat absorption.
