ATP Australian Open semifinals

Sinner – Shelton: 24.01.2025 09:30 CEST

H2H: 4-1

Sinner has won 22 straight matches. This is his first tournament of the season, following a triumphant 2024, where he helped Italy secure the Davis Cup title. His last loss was in October in Beijing, losing against Alcaraz in the final.

In the Australian Open, Jannik had it easy against Jarry in the opening round, winning in straight sets. In the second round, Sinner overcame Schoolkate in four sets after a surprising 4-6 loss in the first set. After that, in the third round, Sinner breezed past Giron in straight sets. Jannik is the defending champion in the Australian Open. In the 1/8-Finals, Sinner won against Rune in four tight sets. He was physically exhausted on the court but managed to pull through. Yesterday in the quarterfinals, Jannik took down Alex de Minaur in straight sets as we predicted, facing and saving just one breakpoint.

As the defending champion, Sinner is chasing his third Grand Slam title and a second consecutive Australian Open crown. Last year, he pulled off an incredible comeback in the final, defeating Daniil Medvedev after trailing two sets to love.

Ben Shelton has won four of his last five matches. While he began the year with a three-hour battle and a loss to Mensik in Auckland, Shelton has rebounded impressively at the Australian Open:

In the opening Australian Open round, Shelton defeated Brandon Nakashima in straight sets after rallying from a 2-5 deficit in the opening set. After that, in the second round, Ben beat Pablo Carreno-Busta in four tight sets, saving all six breakpoints faced. In the third round, Shelton took down Lorenzo Musetti in four sets, serving 11 aces and landing 70% of his first serves. Against Monfils in the 1/8-Finals, Shelton led 2-1 when Monfils retired with a back injury. Yesterday, in the quarterfinals, Ben fought past Lorenzo Sonego in four sets. Although Sonego claimed the third set and kept the fourth competitive, Shelton remained composed to secure the win.

Shelton’s best performance at the Australian Open came in 2023 when he reached the quarterfinals before losing to Tommy Paul. This year marks only his third appearance in Melbourne.

Best Bet for Sinner v Shelton

At the tennis sportsbooks, Sinner is the big favorite in this matchup, and we agree. The Italian is riding a 22-match winning streak and has consistently delivered dominant performances this tournament. On the other hand, Shelton has had a relatively favorable draw and has yet to face a top-10 opponent. Their head-to-head record further supports Sinne, with the Italian winning their last four meetings. Their most recent encounter, in Shanghai under similar conditions, saw Sinner claim a comfortable straight-sets victory. Given his current form, we expect Sinner to win easily and prolong his winning streak.

Our prediction: Sinner covering the games handicap.

Value bet / the best odds: Jannik Sinner -6.5 games handicap @ 1.80 or -125
