The final day of the 2025 Laver Cup is here, and following a few upsets yesterday, Team World is holding an impressive, and somewhat surprising, 9-3 lead. However, each match on Sunday is now worth three points, and the opportunity for Team Europe to get a comeback is possible, but how likely is it? The Europeans need three wins to tie and all four to pull off a complete comeback victory. Let’s look at some good matches for Sunday.
Jakub Mensik vs Alex de Minaur
De Minaur leads the head-to-head 2–0, both wins coming indoors over the past year (Vienna, Rotterdam). Mensik got off to a nervy but strong start in the event, winning his debut match in a 10-point tiebreak after dropping a set.
The Czech brings a big serve and heavy groundstrokes, and he’s in good form. However, the slower indoor court may blunt that weapon to some degree and de Minaurs consistency and tactical experience will be tough to break down. As we saw yesterday against Zverev.
Prediction: Mensik need an upset here for his team but I’ll go for De Minaur taking this in 2 or possibly 3 sets.
Alexander Zverev vs Taylor Fritz
This is arguably the marquee match to conclude the Laver Cup. Zverev has not really looked himself so far and has admitted to back issues, but of course he remains a player capable of reaching a very high-level. Fritz is on a big high obviously after a dominant win over world No. 1 Alcaraz and has clear momentum.
Fritz leads their ATP head-to-head 8–5, and has won the last five meetings in a row, including in major events and at team competitions.
Prediction: Fritz game has often caused problems for the German and with the form his now in, I can’t go against the American. Fritz to seal the win and possible overall victory for Team World.
