Updated 9 February 2026
The 53rd edition of the ABN AMRO Open is just around the corner, bringing top indoor tennis back to the Rotterdam Ahoy. While Alcaraz has been confirmed to miss out this year, the player field looks interesting once again!
Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming 2026 ATP500 in Rotterdam.
Tournament Schedule and Dates
The main event officially starts on Monday, February 9, following two days of qualifying matches.
- Qualifying: Saturday, Feb 7 – Sunday, Feb 8
- Main Draw: Monday, Feb 9 – Sunday, Feb 15
- Singles Final: Sunday, Feb 15 at 3:30 p.m. local time
- Doubles Final: Sunday, Feb 15 at 1:00 p.m. local time
The Draw and Player News
Alex de Minaur headlines the field as the top seed, looking to finally secure the title after reaching the finals in both 2024 and 2025. He faces a tricky path, opening against the explosive Frenchman Arthur Fils. On the opposite side of the bracket, second seed Felix Auger-Aliassime enters the tournament with significant momentum, fresh off defending his title in Montpellier. The 2022 Rotterdam champion starts his campaign against Australia’s Alexei Popyrin.
First-Round Blockbusters
The draw has served up several “must-watch” matches for the opening rounds:
The Farewell Factor: Swiss legend Stan Wawrinka, competing in Rotterdam for the final time, received a wildcard and could potentially meet top-seeded De Minaur in the second round if both win their openers.
Daniil Medvedev [4] vs. Ugo Humbert: The 2023 champion, Medvedev, finds himself in a fascinating first-round clash against Humbert, who actually leads their head-to-head series 3–1.
Alexander Bublik [3] vs. Hubert Hurkacz: Bublik, currently sitting at a career-high world No. 10, faces a statistical mountain in Hurkacz, who has dominated their previous encounters 6–1.
The Big Miss: Carlos Alcaraz Out
The biggest news heading into the week is the withdrawal of defending champion and world No. 1, Carlos Alcaraz. Fresh off his historic victory at the 2026 Australian Open, where he became the youngest man to complete a Career Grand Slam, Alcaraz cited physical exhaustion.
Carlos Alcaraz won't defend his title in Rotterdam. The Australian Open champion concluded that after his exertions over the past two weeks, he needs more time to return to action.
