Biography and Career

Lorenzo Sonego was born on 11th May 1995 in Turin in the north of Italy. He began playing tennis at the age of 11 with coach Gipo Arbino, (which is his coach still today).

Lorenzo turned pro in 2013 and three years later, in May 2016, he made his ATP Tour debut at the Italian Open. The following year he won his first Challenger title at the 2017 Sparkassen ATP Challenger.

In 2018, Sonego made his Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open and he reach the 2nd round, following a win over Robin Haase.

The first ATP title came instead in 2019, when the Italian defeated Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic in the final at Antalya, Turkey.

Apart from a drop in form in the 2022 season, Sonego has slowly made several achievements on the tour including four ATP singles titles:

  1. During his match versus Shelton yesterday, the commentary mentioned that he strings his racket 19/19 (and in passing they also mentioned that Zverev has it strung at 18.4/18.4)
