On Wednesday, July 2th, we’re up for another great match on Court 1 between British No. 1 Emma Raducanu and 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova. So, what can we expect from this match, and what’s our prediction?
Raducanu vs Vondrousova
Emma Raducanu (World No. 40) started her Wimbledon campaign with a confident 6-3, 6-3 win over British wildcard Mimi Xu on Monday. The 2021 US Open champion, who reached the Wimbledon fourth round last year, has looked sharp on grass, going 6-2 this season with quarterfinal runs at Queenโs and Eastbourne. Despite a back issue, Raducanuโs aggressive play and home support make her a tough opponent for most tour players.
Marketa Vondrousova (World No. 73) is in top form after a tough 2024. The Czech, who won Wimbledon as an unseeded player in 2023, beat 32nd seed McCartney Kessler 6-4, 6-2 in the first round. She also claimed the Berlin Open title in June, upsetting world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. Vondrousovaโs crafty left-handed game and grass-court instincts are clicking again, despite past shoulder and hand injuries.
Head-to-Head
Vondrousova leads 2-1 here. Raducanu won their only Wimbledon meeting in 2021 (6-2, 6-4), but Vondrousova took their last two clashes: 6-1, 6-1 at the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup (clay) and 6-3, 6-4 at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Open (hard).

Predictions
This could be a classic match. Raducanu seem to getting back in form, with the crowd behind her, and we know her highest level is very high. Still, we tend to agree with the bookmakers in holding Vondrousova as the slight favorite here in the 2nd round. She has looked very sharp in this grass swing and is a very intelligent player with a big variety in her game. The Czech has won the first set in all six grass matches this season and Raducanu needs to avoid a slow start.
Prediction: Vondrousova wins in three sets.
