In the semifinal he’s up against 54 ranked Denis Shapovalov in what should be a good test for Paul.

Tommy Paul is off to a good start to the 2025 season. His quarterfinal in Melbourne has been followed up by a semifinal spot here in Dallas and we like his chances of defending the title. To reach the semi’s, Paul has defeated Jenson Brooksby, Ethan Quinn and Reilly Opelka. The two first matches, he was struggling at times but looked impressive in the last match against an in-form Opelka when he took the match in two sets, 7-6, 6-2.

Up next is Canadian Denis Shapovalov which is a surprise to see among the last four. Following a really slow start to the year, Shapovalov has really stood out here in Dallas by defeating big names Miomir Kecmanovic, world no 4 Taylor Fritz and Tomas Machac.

These two only met three times, and not since 2022, Tommy Paul is currently holding a narrow 2-1 lead. Their only meeting on hard court indoor came in Stockholm in 2021 where Paul won in three sets.

Predictions and Odds

We see Paul as slight favorite to progress to the final in front of the home crowd, looking at previous meetings, his records at indoor events and being the defending champion here.

The form of Shapovalov has been fantastic here in Dallas though, and the question is if he can keep this up all the way? An upset here would not be extremely surprising in this meeting between two great indoor players.

The Canadian has a superb serve and we think he will be tough to break down there, might see at least one tie-break.
