The grass-court season is in full swing, and the Americans are doing well so far, we are set for yet another all-American final, now at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle. Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz, two of the top ranked US players, will battle for the title in their first ever grass court meeting.
For anyone gearing up for more tennis betting ahead of Wimbledon, we give our predictions of the final below.
The Road to the Final
Taylor Fritz has been in fantastic form this grass swing after a slow season otherwise. After snapping Zverev’s ten-match winning streak in a tense three-set semifinal (6-7(4), 6-4, 7-5) he looks like a man on a mission. The American’s serves (19 aces and an 87% first-serve points-won rate against Zverev) proved that his game is perfectly suited for the quick surfaces in Halle. Fritz mentioned after the match that his decision to play here, despite the strength of the field, was driven by a need to find his rhythm on grass. It’s clearly paid dividends, as he reaches his 22nd career ATP final in full confidence.
Fritz is now 30-5 on grass since the start of 2024 and if he wins on Sunday it will be his sixth title on grass courts.
Frances Tiafoe, meanwhile, has looked remarkably sharp and efficient on grass. While Fritz was battling through a tough three-setter, Tiafoe cruised past Daniel Altmaier in a dominant 6-1, 6-3 display. Tiafoe’s ability to take the racquet out of his opponent’s hands with his aggressive baseline shots and improved net play has been a highlight of his campaign in Germany.

H2H
These are two players that know each other’s games inside out but we can see Fritz has a clear edge in their H2H history. In total it’s 7-1 up and he won the seven last clashes between them, all on hard-courts. Their last meeting was at the 2024 US Open where Fritz won 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Predictions for Fritz vs Tiafoe
Fritz enters this match with clear momentum after a massive win over Zverev and a very high level of comfort on his serve. His form on grass is unbelievable lately. While Tiafoe’s path has been easier, he hasn’t been pushed to the same limit as Fritz this week.
Tiafoe’s movement on this surface is very good and he can disrupt the rhythm of many players. However, the consistency of Fritz on grass, and particularly his serve in important moments, might be the edge in the final. Service games will be held under intense pressure and Fritz has been good at manufacturing free points and shorten rallies. I think he won’t lose two finals in a row.
Prediction: Fritz to win in 2 tight sets.
