Yonex Tennis Racquets: Precision, feel and balanced performance

yonex ezone 100 review

Yonex has a very unique personality among the top tennis rackets. Some brands try to be all things to all people but Yonex has always played to precision, feel and the unique advantage of their Isometric head shape. So the racket lines are clear and purposeful and the best Yonex frames tend to have a very defined identity once you get them on court.

This is what I find interesting about Yonex. The brand has five main families of rackets that most players will have heard of: EZONE is the power and all-round performance family, VCORE is the spin focused line built for heavy topspin, PERCEPT is the control led option for players who want precision, ASTREL is the comfort and arm friendly range and finally MUSE is Yonex’s newest addition focused on ease of play and plush comfort for intermediates. Each family has different models such as EZONE 100, VCORE 98, PERCEPT 100D, etc. so you can fine-tune the feel and performance.

The main Yonex lines

EZONE

EZONE will probably be the first port of call for most club players. It’s built for power, forgiveness and that modern “do-it-all” balance where you still get a ton of spin but this frame is all about confidence on full swings. It suits players who like to hit a good cut at the ball, and feel the racket is helping them with pace and depth, without having to do all the work themselves. The EZONE 100 (image on top) is the go-to racquet for aggressive flat hitters looking for power in a 100 square inch racquet.

Within the EZONE family, you get options like:

  • EZONE 100 – The standard power-focused racket for intermediates and all-round players
  • EZONE 98 – The advanced version with more control and precision
  • EZONE 100L – Lighter version for players who want easier maneuverability

VCORE

If people want heavy topspin, the first spin line they’ll look at is VCORE. The Yonex VCORE 8 came out in January 2026 and is all about more spin, with a new bright red color. Along with the power-oriented EZONE and control-oriented PERCEPT, this spin-centric model is one of Yonex’s three main tour-level rackets.

Within the VCORE family, you get options like:

  • VCORE 98 – The advanced spin-focused racket for intermediate to advanced players
  • VCORE 100 – The standard spin-focused racket for intermediates
  • VCORE 95 – The best-sounding racquet on the market with the most rewarding all-around hitting experience
The VCORE 98

PERCEPT

PERCEPT is Yonex’s line of control designed for players who prioritize precision. It doesn’t have the pop of the EZONE or the spin of the VCORE, but it gives a more direct, controlled feel for players who create their own pace and want to shape the ball. PERCEPT is the control-oriented choice that diverged from the VCORE line two years ago.

Within the PERCEPT family, you get options like:

  • PERCEPT 100D – The control-focused version with a tighter 18×19 pattern (D for “drive control”)
  • PERCEPT 97D – The advanced version with more precision
  • PERCEPT 100 – The more forgiving version with extra power

ASTREL

ASTREL is Yonex’s family of comfort and arm-friendly Yonex has built it on the themes of flexibility, forgiveness and easier access to usable performance and that’s why it tends to appeal to players who want something arm-friendlier or just less demanding overall. It’s not the stereotypical crisp player’s racket, which is why it appeals to a wide audience.

Within the ASTREL family, you get these options:

  • ASTREL 100 – The standard comfort-focused racket for intermediates
  • ASTREL 105 – The lightweight version with easy power and control
  • ASTREL 120 – The oversized option for effortless power and mobility

MUSE

The MUSE, Yonex’s latest racquet released in 2026 was introduced with the tagline, “Feel the Rally, Forget the Rest.” Yonex is marketing the MUSE as a racquet made for pure connection and flow on court. This is not a tour level racquet. This is built for real players. The MUSE is perfect for beginners, tennis players returning to the game, or for those seeking a lighter swing with a more forgiving feel.

The MUSE is all about “effortless comfort” with a huge sweet spot, plush feel and ultra versatile performance. There’s a new category that focuses on ease of play and versatility with 98 & 100 sq in head sizes and approachable 295-305g weights. The open-edge grommets are a huge sweet spot in Yonex history and the unique beam design (24mm ? 18mm) adds flex and plush feel.

Yonex Muse

Within the MUSE family, you get options like:

  • MUSE 100 (295g) – The standard comfort-focused racket for intermediates with a massive sweet spot.
  • MUSE 100L (280g) – Lighter version for beginners and rising intermediates, maximizing swing speed and effortless spin.
  • MUSE 100SL (265g) – Ultra-light option for juniors and players seeking ultimate maneuverability and arm-friendly power.

Best Yonex racquets I’ve tested

If I were putting together a “best of Yonex” list of the ones I’ve tested, these would be the standout frames:

1. Yonex Percept 100D

If you want the Yonex frame that feels the most complete control wise this is the one I keep coming back to. The Percept 100D has that clean, connected response that better players tend to love, but still gives you a slightly more forgiving platform than a very demanding traditional control racquet. My favourite thing about it is just how stable it feels when you flatten the ball out or redirect pace. It just feels stable and precise and very honest. My number one choice of Yonex for players looking for control first but still need a racquet to be playable over long sessions.

2. Yonex VCORE 95

This is probably the most addictive Yonex frame that I have used in terms of timing and striking the ball well. The VCORE 95 is a very distinct personality—fast through the air, precise, spin-friendly for a 95, and just incredibly rewarding when you’re sure on your strokes. It’s not the easiest frame in the range granted, but that’s part of the appeal somehow. This is one of the most fun frames Yonex makes for the stronger player who wants a more specialist racquet with loads of feel and personality.

3.  Yonex EZONE 98

The EZONE 98 is easily one of the easier “serious” racquets to recommend because it strikes such a fine balance of power, control and comfort. It has that modern Yonex feel to it with enough pop to help from the baseline but without getting too wild or too launchy. I’ve always liked how it feels balanced — it does a lot of things right and never feels one-note. This is one of the safest and strongest options in the entire Yonex line if someone is looking for a modern performance racquet that will suit a huge range of intermediate to advanced players. More in our review of the Yonex Ezone 98.

4. Yonex EZONE 100

The EZONE 100 is the more forgiving, more accessible version of that same EZONE identity. It allows you to get easier power, easier depth, and a bigger margin for error. That’s why it works for so many different players. What I like is it still feels clean and stable, not overly hollow or uncontrolled which can sometimes happen with the easier power racquets. For an all-round player looking for a Yonex that is easy to use and works from day one, this is a very strong choice.

5. Yonex MUSE 100

The MUSE 100 is a little different to the others here as I’ve only used it in doubles so far but I really enjoyed it. The first thing that struck me was how easy and fun it was to play with. It feels comfortable, forgiving and very simple to pick up and use well. That easy power and bigger sweet spot made it really enjoyable on serve returns, quick exchanges and reaction volleys, especially in doubles. It’s not yet a proven all-court singles option over the other frames but, based on doubles play alone, I loved how fun and effortless it felt.

Final take

If I were ranking them purely on what I’d be most likely to recommend to different types of players, I’d probably say:

  • Percept 100D for players who want the most complete control-oriented Yonex frame.
  • VCORE 95 for stronger players who want feel, precision and a more specialist response.
  • EZONE 98 for the best blend of modern performance, power and control.
  • EZONE 100 for easy all-round playability and forgiveness.
  • MUSE 100 for comfort, doubles play and a really fun, easy hitting experience.
