The Ryder Cup of tennis, Laver Cup is back for its ninth edition, bringing a good mix of fierce competition to the UK. Here’s everything you need to know about the 2026 event between Team Europe and Team World in London.
Dates and Location
The 2026 Laver Cup takes place from September 25 to September 27, 2026.
The tournament is being held on an indoor hard court built directly on the arena floor at The O2 Arena in London. So, a welcome return to the iconic venue for the tournament, which previously hosted a very good edition there in 2022.
Tournament Schedule and Format
Played over three action-packed days, the event features five sessions: day and night sessions on Friday and Saturday, followed by a final day session on Sunday. There are four scheduled matches on both Friday and Saturday, while Sunday features one doubles match followed by up to three singles matches, depending on the points needed to decide the winner.
The scoring system scales up to keep the stakes high right through to the final day:
- Friday, September 25 (Day 1): Matches are worth 1 point each.
- Saturday, September 26 (Day 2): Matches are worth 2 points each.
- Sunday, September 27 (Day 3): Matches are worth 3 points each.
The first team to reach 13 points wins the Laver Cup. If the teams are tied 12–12 after all 12 scheduled matches, a fifth and decisive overtime doubles match, known as “The Decider,” is played to determine the champion. The Decider is played as a regular set with advantage scoring, with a tiebreak at 6–6 if necessary.

Legendary tennis greats continue in their roles as team captains, with Yannick Noah leading Team Europe (assisted by vice-captain Tim Henman) and Andre Agassi steering Team World (assisted by vice-captain Pat Rafter).

Ruud was the last player to join the Europe squad, it will be his sixth straight Laver Cup appearance.

Learner Tien will be playing the Laver Cup for the first time and he commented:

- The Name: The tournament is named in honor of Australian tennis legend Rod Laver, widely considered one of the greatest players in tennis history and the only man to achieve the Calendar Grand Slam twice.
- Recent History: Team World enters this year’s tournament looking to maintain momentum after last years win in San Francisco. Overall the Europeans have a 5-3 lead but Team World has won most of the recent battles.
