The Australian Open has just announced a record-breaking total prize pool of $111.5 million AUD for the 2026 tournament.

The announcement, made Tuesday by tournament organisers, marks a 16% increase from the 2025 prize fund of $96.5 million. This historic boost ensures that the season’s first Grand Slam remains one of the most lucrative events in global sports.

Bigger Paydays at Every Level

While the stars at the top will see significant gains, a major focus of this year’s increase is supporting players who exit in the earlier rounds. Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley explained that this change is designed to make pro tennis more sustainable for a wider range of players.

Key Prize Money Highlights:

  • Singles Champions: Both the men’s and women’s winners will take home $4.15 million, a 19% jump from last year.
  • First-Round Exit: Even players who lose in the first round of the main draw are guaranteed $150,000.
  • Qualifying Rounds: Prize money for qualifying has increased by 16%, with players in the first round of qualifying receiving $40,500.
  • Minimum Increase: All main draw singles and doubles players will see at least a 10% raise in their earnings compared to 2025.

Investing in Player Welfare

Beyond the direct prize money, the tournament is also increasing its “player benefits” package. This includes a 67% boost in travel assistance and enhanced welfare initiatives to help lower-ranked players manage the high costs of touring the international circuit.

“We want to ensure Australia is the launchpad for the global season and that players are supported at every level of their career,” Tiley said in a statement.
