Betting Prediction for Dellien vs Norrie – ATP Rio de Janeiro

Cameron Norrie continued his impressive run in South America on Wednesday, defeating Thiago Monteiro 7-5, 7-5 in two hours and 30 minutes. The world no.13 improved his record on the South American clay to 5-1 after reaching the final in Buenos Aires last week. This is just the second time that Norrie plays the “Golden Swing”, a series of tournaments in South America, but things are going extremely well for him.

In Buenos Aires he just lost in the final against Carlos Alcaraz, who has been unstoppable since returning from injury. However, things haven’t been easy for Norrie, who has been playing very close matches in every round. His last result against Monteiro is another good example of that, with Norrie winning in two very close sets against the home favorite.

Looking at Norrie’s numbers in the previous round, he was able to create 21 break point opportunities, but only converted five of those. On the other hand, he dropped serve three times and needed six match points to get the job done.

In the next round he will face Hugo Dellien, who is enjoying a great start to the season after missing the last four months of 2022 due to an elbow injury. The Bolivian already reached the semifinals of the ATP Cordoba a few weeks ago and will now play his first-ever ATP 500 quarterfinal this Friday in Rio de Janeiro.

To reach this stage Dellien fought back from a set down to beat the ninth seed Alex Molcan 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 on Wednesday. Despite slow start, the 29-year-old found his best tennis and only dropped serve once after losing the opening set. Dellien has now won 10 of his last 13 matches and is guaranteed to return to the top 100 next week, regardless of this Friday’s result.

Dellien vs Norrie Head-to-Head

This will be the first official meeting between these two players on the ATP Tour.

Dellien vs Norrie Betting Prediction

Looking at the odds available in the best sportsbooks for tennis betting, Norrie is the favorite to win at -208. The British no.1 is the more experienced of the two at this level and it’s easy to understand why he’s the favorite for the bookmakers.

On the other hand, Dellien is playing his first-ever ATP 500 quarterfinal and has a 0-10 career record against top 20 players. This seems to indicate that Norrie will get the win, but this might not be an easy match for him.

As mentioned before, Norrie has won a lot of matches on the South America clay and is looking to extend his record in the “Golden Swing” this Friday. However, none of the matches were easy for him, as all scorelines were very close and a third set was even needed in two of his five victories.

The totals for this game is at 21.5 games, a line that was surpassed in four of Norrie’s previous five victories in South America. Adding to this, Dellien was also able to cover the Over 21.5 games in four of his previous six matches against top 20 players on clay.

No doubt that Norrie is the most experienced of the two but Dellien is a terrific competitor on clay and has nothing to lose here. The no.2 seed has also played a lot of tennis lately and it won’t be easy to keep winning after so many hours on court in the last two weeks. Having said that, the Over 21.5 games seems to be the best betting tip for this match, as our prediction is that this will be a very close encounter. This totals line is currently available at around -110, a good price considering that it can be covered with two close sets, similar to what happened in Norrie’s match against Monteiro on Wednesday.

Betting Tip: Over 21.5 Games (-110)
