The eighth edition of the Laver Cup is set for the Chase Center in San Francisco from September 19–21, 2025, marking the event’s debut on the US West Coast. This unique indoor hard-court event will host 12 matches, (singles and doubles) in the best-of-three format.

Venue & Format

Location: Chase Center, San Francisco (a converted NBA/WNBA arena, first-time host)
Format: 12 matches over 3 days – nine singles, three doubles. Matches are best-of-three sets, with the third set a 10-point tiebreaker.

Each match win on the first day is worth one point, day two wins are worth two points while day three victories counts as three points. The first team to get to 13 points will be champions.

All players must compete in one singles match during the first two days, but no more than two during the three-day event. At least four out of the six players must play in the doubles.

Teams & Line-ups

Team Europe

Alcaraz and Zverev the two top names for the defending champions, with a few interesting younger names such as Cobolli and Mensik.

Jakub Mensik makes his Laver Cup debut this year, at only 19 years, and is expected to be a top name on the tour in the near future.

“Representing Europe with players like Carlos and Sascha is a dream come true for me, and I am truly honored to be part of the team.” commented the Czech.

Captain: Yannick Noah (with vice-captain Tim Henman)
Players:

  • Carlos Alcaraz (ATP No. 1)
  • Alexander Zverev (No. 3)
  • Holger Rune (No. 11)
  • Casper Ruud (No. 12)
  • Jakub Mensik (No. 17)
  • Flavio Cobolli (No. 25)

Team World

A lot of pressure on Taylor Fritz here, but can youngsters Michelsen and Fonseca possibly deliver upsets? Alex Michelsen and Reilly Opelka was recently introduced instead of injured Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul.

Frances Tiafoe will unfortunately miss out on his sixth time representing Team World and Alex de Minaur is his replacement.

Captain: Andre Agassi (vice-captain Pat Rafter)
Players:

  • Taylor Fritz (No. 5)
  • Alex de Minaur (No. 8)
  • Francisco Cerundolo (No. 21)
  • Alex Michelsen (No. 32)
  • Joao Fonseca (No. 42)
  • Reilly Opelka (No. 63)

Previous meetings and best matches

Historical dominance leans heavily toward Team Europe, which currently leads the Laver Cup series 5–2. Last year in Berlin the Europeans took home a slight victory 13-11. However, lately we have seen Team World win in two of the last three seasons.

Given Team Europe’s in-form collection of top-12 players, they’re widely expected to be the favourites again in 2025.

Odds are still not out among bookmakers but we will update here once we see this. Expect Europe to continue as the front-runner thanks to its depth of top ranked players, while Team World, despite home-court support and some interesting young talents, must overcome ranking and experience gaps.

Potential key match-ups worth watching:

  • Carlos Alcaraz vs Taylor Fritz: A marquee clash. Alcaraz is the best player on tour right now and just got his world no 1 spot. Can no 5 ranked Fritz challenge and get his first win against the Spaniard?
  • Alexander Zverev vs. Alex de Minaur: Zverev’s powerful groundstrokes and big serve would be a fascinating contrast to de Minaur’s incredible speed and defensive skills.
  • Holger Rune vs. Joao Fonseca: This would be a must-see for fans of the next generation of tennis stars. Both Rune and Fonseca are making their Laver Cup debuts and are known for their high-energy games.
  • Casper Ruud vs. Reilly Opelka: With Opelka’s return to the team, he’ll be eager to prove his worth, and his serve is a weapon that could be difficult for anyone, even the consistent Ruud, to handle on an indoor court.

Predictions and Best Bets

Day 1 Matches confirmed:

Casper Ruud vs Reilly Opelka

Jakum Mensik vs Alex Michelsen

Flavio Cobolli vs Joao Fonseca

Alcaraz/Mensik vs Fritz/Michelsen

Our prediction? Team Europe to win comfortably, around 13-7, with Alcaraz as top points scorer.
