If you are a tennis nerd, you have probably noticed that Opelka defeated Djokovic in Brisbane. But what is Reilly Opelka’s new racquet?
Reilly Opelka is back on tour after a long injury timeout. And he is back with a bang! He defeated the 24-time Grand Slam winner displaying good movement, a forehand on fire and the usual banging serves. Djokovic sometimes looked befuddled at what was going on. I can understand that. How Opelka moved this well for his height is quite shocking. His game has looked a lot more steady in Brisbane than it looked before his long injury timeout.
Opelka’s new racquet is white but has no cosmetics. But it is a Tecnifibre Tfight. How do I know? If you zoom in on pictures you can notice that the grommets are the black EZ-lock grommets that are simplifying stringing on Tfight racquets. I have tested the new Tfights (review coming soon!) and I can understand why he has changed. These are some quality frames!
But which Tecnifibre racquet is it?
I don’t know the specifications of Reilly Opelka’s new racquet, but I can say from the pictures that it is the new Tecnifibre Tfight 305 16/19. Otherwise, the 305 tends to be the more famous model among pro players as it has a control-oriented 18/19 pattern. But if you zoom into the pictures with Opelka, you can see that the string pattern is 16/19, which is more similar to his 16/18 pattern from the Wilson Six One 95 that he used in the past.
If I am going to make a guess about the choice of strings, I would guess Tecnifibre Razor Soft, which seems to have become quite popular among advanced players and pros. UPDATE: it is Tecnifibre Black Code :)
Next up for Opelka is another big server in Giovanni Mpetschi Perricard. Looking at how both of these players attack the ball, also apart from the serve, I think it’s quite unfair to put “servebot” on them. They can play exciting tennis for sure.
