Red-light therapy (RLT), also known as photobiomodulation, has moved from clinics and physiotherapy offices into portable home devices. Prungo focuses on wearable, modular systems designed for targeted muscle and joint treatment rather than large stationary light panels.
We’ve tested the PRUNGO FluxGo system. Here’s our review along with a clear breakdown of what Prungo devices do and what they can offer.

What is Prungo Red-Light Therapy?
Prungo produces compact, wearable red-light therapy “pods” that strap directly onto specific body areas such as the knee, shoulder, wrist, neck or lower back.
Instead of sitting in front of a large wall panel, users attach the device directly to the treatment area. Some models allow multiple pods to connect together to cover larger areas, basically, this approach is designed for convenience, portability and localised treatment.
How it works
Prungo devices typically use two well-studied wavelengths of light:
650nm Red Light
- Optimized for more superficial tissues (skin and near-surface structures)
- Often associated with supporting skin health and localized inflammation response
- Used in research related to collagen support and minor tissue recovery
850nm Near-Infrared (NIR) Light
- Invisible to the eye
- Penetrates deeper into muscle and joint tissue compared to visible red light
- Commonly used in studies focused on muscle recovery and joint discomfort
It’s important to understand that penetration depth depends on:
- Device power output (irradiance, usually measured in mW/cm²)
- Treatment duration
- Skin tone and tissue density
- How closely the device sits against the skin
So while 850nm generally penetrates deeper than 650nm, the exact depth varies.
Our review of the Prungo FluxGo
I have been using the Prungo FluxGo alongside my father for several weeks. He has some back and shoulder soreness bothering him and I have a tense forearm. Both discomforts are, in some form, related to tennis. I developed forearm stiffness using a stiff racquet and string combination and an incorrect grip size. This happens when you test gear all year and can be the onset of tennis elbow.
To be honest, my initial stance when testing these types of products is always a form of skepticism. However, after the first 20-minute session (I used the STRONG setting), I felt a sense of relief. And as I kept doing it daily, it seemed to help the discomfort more and more. You feel like the arm is more relaxed straight away.
My dad is even more skeptical about new gadgets and tech, but is open to trying. But he has become a fan of the FluxGo. He felt slightly better straight away and has been using it daily as a part of his routine. For him it has worked well and relieved some muscle soreness and tenseness that he has struggled with.
So, even though it is sometimes difficult to tell what is a placebo and what is not, our experience with the FluxGo has been very positive overall. It is so easy to use and get started that you will stick to your routine, and that is not true for every rehab method I try. My physio also recommended red light therapy after a treatment, so I am happy to have the FluxGo. Recommended!

What happens at the cellular level?
When red and near-infrared light reach tissue, they interact with mitochondria, often described as the “power plants” of cells.
Research suggests this process can:
- Increase ATP (cellular energy) production
- Support cellular repair processes
- Help regulate inflammation responses
This does not mean it “heals injuries instantly,” but it may support the body’s natural recovery mechanisms.

Key features of the Prungo FluxGo System
Modular Design
Individual pods can be used alone or combined to cover larger treatment areas.
Wearable & Hands-Free
Adjustable straps allow the device to remain in contact with the body during treatment, so users can sit, relax or move lightly during sessions.
Simple Treatment Modes
Most wearable devices offer preset intensity or duration modes (e.g., mild, medium, strong). These can adjust:
- Session length
- Light intensity
- Or both
Typical treatment sessions for wearable RLT devices range from 10–20 minutes.
Portable Charging Case
These models include a compact charging case for travel or gym use.
What determines effectiveness?
Beyond wavelength, effectiveness depends on:
- Irradiance (power density) – Higher isn’t always better, but adequate intensity matters.
- Consistency – Most studies use repeated sessions over weeks.
- Correct placement – Light must be in direct contact with the treatment area.
- Realistic expectations – Results vary by condition and individual.
Consumer wearable devices are generally lower powered than clinical systems, but they are more convenient for daily use.
Who is it for?
We would say that the Prungo-style wearable devices are best for:
Athletes
- Managing post-exercise soreness
- Supporting muscle recovery
People with Mild to Moderate Joint Discomfort
- Knees
- Elbows (e.g., tennis elbow)
- Shoulders
- Lower back stiffness
Desk Workers
- Neck strain
- Wrist fatigue
- Shoulder tightness
They are not a replacement for medical care in cases of serious injury, structural joint damage or advanced disease.

What it Is – and what it isn’t
Red-light therapy:
- Is non-invasive
- Is drug-free
- Has growing clinical support for inflammation modulation and recovery support
It is not:
- A guaranteed cure
- A replacement for surgery or prescribed treatment
- A solution that works overnight
Summary
Prungo’s wearable system offers a convenient, consumer-grade approach to photobiomodulation. By combining 650nm red light and 850nm near-infrared light in a modular, strap-on format, it focuses on localized treatment and portability.
For users seeking a practical at-home recovery tool (particularly for muscle soreness and joint discomfort) it may be a useful addition to a broader wellness routine.
Like most recovery tools, its value depends on consistent use, realistic expectations and the specific condition being treated.
