The last big WTA event of the year is traditionally the WTA Finals, and it’s upon us this weekend. This year will be the first time it’s held in Riyadh, which makes it even more interesting. The event was won by Iga Swiatek in 2023, and she’ll be back this year to try to finish the season strong.

Seven others will be in Riyadh with the same intention though, so let’s take a look at how the WTA Finals might unfold over the coming week.

WTA Finals Odds and Favorites

A total of eight women will compete at the WTA Finals, but only one will be crowned champion. Who will it be? Well, here’s what the latest tennis odds have to say.

WTA Finals Open Betting Odds

  • Aryna Sabalenka @ 2.50 (+150)
  • Iga Swiatek @ 4.00 (+300)
  • Coco Gauff @ 6.00 (+500)
  • Qinwen Zheng @ 8.40 (+740)
  • Jessica Pegula @ 9.00 (+800)
  • Elena Rybakina @ 9.00 (+800)
  • Jasmine Paolini @ 23.00 (+2200)
  • Barbora Krejcikova @ 34.00 (+3300)

It’s not a huge surprise that Aryna Sabalenka is the top favorite at the event because she’s been really good in the past couple of weeks. From winning the US Open to doing well in China, it’s just clear that she played the best tennis out of all players.

Iga Swiatek is the second favorite mostly because she’s been the best player for much of this year, so it’s only natural that she’s among the top favorites, and has performed previously at this time of the year.

Coco Gauff, Qinwen Zheng, Jessica Pegula and Elena Rybakina are all in the mix, with moderate odds of winning, simply because they have a high ceiling, but are inconsistent. Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejcikova, however, aren’t given much of a chance by the bookies.

Betting Tips and Predictions for the WTA Finals

You’ve seen the bookies odds, but what’s likely to happen at the WTA Finals? We’ve done our analysis, and these are our predictions, together with some betting tips for those who are eager to make some bets on the year-end finals in Riyadh.

  1. Iga Swiatek to Make the Final

Iga Swiatek won this event last year and we think that should put together another strong run, mostly because the Polish player somehow always finds her best tennis at this event. She hasn’t played in a long time which might be a problem, but she will come determined to win this one.

She has had plenty of time to relax and prepare, and generally Swiatek is at her best when she has enough time to prepare for the event like she will this time around. Another thing is that she’s generally done well against most of these players. Some can beat her and have beaten her, but generally on a hard court she can beat most of these players. We think there is a very good chance that she channels her motivation successfully this week.

The odds of her winning are certainly enticing, but a safer bet is picking her through to the final, where she may or may not pull off a win.

  1. Jessica Pegula Is a Dark Horse

A player who could surprise at the event is Jessica Pegula. She has been very good on hard courts this year and stood in the US Open final. That’s not by chance. Sure, making the final here will be a bit tricky because it’s a new court where she’s never played against, but her consistency is very good.

She’s more consistent than most of these players, and the only players in the draw that give her problems regularly are Swiatek and Sabalenka. It’s not impossible for her to find her best tennis in the right circumstances and win those matches.

Stranger things have happened, but if you’re looking for one player to surprise and deliver a performance which nobody saw coming, then it’s Pegula. She’s just improved to that level.

  1. Aryna Sabalenka to Win

This is the outcome that bookies think is most likely. It comes down to Sabalenka being really good lately and especially her dominance on hard courts this year. Based on everything we’ve seen the past three months, it’s hard to bet against the Belarusian.

She has a good serve, hits the ball hard most of the time, and she’s actually played in Riyadh before. That’s one thing to consider here even though she’s not going to play on the same court as she did last time.

sabalenka

That experience could certainly become crucial and for her, as the biggest challenge she will face in Riyadh is Swiatek. The Pole has been able to beat her relatively consistently over recent years, even though on hard courts Sabalenka does have bigger chances.

She’ll have to bring her best tennis to overcome Swiatek, but on the balance of probability, our money sits with the new world No 1 taking home the WTA Finals to cap off a brilliant year.
