Alcaraz vs. Vacherot
Carlos Alcaraz (Seed: 1)
The top seed has been clinical this week and is surely the best player in the world on clay at the moment. After a minor injury scare earlier in the month, Alcaraz has dispelled any doubts about his fitness with a series of straight-set wins. His movement on clay remains as good as we can expect, combining sliding defense with explosive drop shots.
Look for variety. Alcaraz rarely plays the same point twice. He will likely use high-topspin balls mixed with flat strikes to keep Vacherot from finding a comfortable hitting zone.
Valentin Vacherot
The Monegasque player is the story of the tournament and is looking to repeat his performance from Shanghai last year. His path wasn’t easy, he had to take down Hubert Hurkacz and Alex de Minaur in back-to-back three-set marathons.
He will need the home crowd energy today to survive this test. Vacherot has nothing to lose. If he can maintain the high first-serve percentage that saved him against De Minaur, he could keep the sets really close.
Predictions and Odds
An in-form Vacherot has the home advantage, but that is about it. Alcaraz is a better player on clay in basically every department and enters as massive favorite at around 1.10 (-1000) odds.
Vacherot has also spent significantly more time on court this week compared to Alcaraz’s efficient run. He needs an explosive start today. A win for the home player pays 10 times the money at the bookies.
Expect Alcaraz to test Vacherot’s endurance by moving him side-to-side, eventually wearing down the Monegasque’s legs.
Prediction: Alcaraz in straight sets, but we might see a tie-break.
