The Singapore Tennis Open (STO) is returning to The Kallang this September, and it’s arriving with a promotion.

After a successful run as a WTA 250 tournament, the event has officially been upgraded to a WTA 500 status. This puts Singapore in an elite club of just 18 global host cities at this tier (like Brisbane and Charleston) and this will be Southeast Asia’s only WTA 500 event.

Scheduled from 21 to 27 September 2026 at the indoor hard courts of the OCBC Arena, the tournament will be a premier anchor for the opening of the WTA’s important Asian Swing. With approximately US$1.2 million in total prize money and plenty of ranking points up for grabs, players will be fighting to secure their spots in the year-end championships.

The format:

  • Singles Draw: 28 elite players
  • Doubles Draw: 16 top-tier teams
  • Bonus: Catch two days of high-intensity qualifying rounds right before the main event on 19–20 September (and yes, qualifying weekend is totally free for fans to attend!).
Alexandra Eala

Familiar Faces and Big Brands

The player field is already shaping up nicely. Filipino sensation and current World No. 32 Alexandra Eala is officially locked to make her return to Singapore. Eala has a history here, having played the venue during her junior days at the WTA Future Stars, and she’s coming off a historic run where she became the first player from the Philippines to reach a WTA 1000 semifinal.

The upgrade has also caught the eye of big sponsors, with Mercedes-Benz jumping on board as the official automobile partner and ASICS handling the gear for the court staff and ball kids.

Tickets

For anyone interested to see the event live, early-bird tickets is now live with a 10% discount running for the next four weeks until July 27. Organizers are leaning heavily on inclusivity, meaning single-session tickets start at a very cheap $8 for Court 1.

Let’s see if we get more upgraded tournaments on the WTA tour in the near future..
