I tested both Solinco Confidential Soft and Solinco Hyper-G Soft in the Wilson Blade 98 and the Pure Aero 98, which is a good way to compare them because those two racquets demand slightly different things from a string. The Blade 98 is all about control and feel, while the Pure Aero 98 is more about spin and easy access to pace, so the differences between these two softer Solinco polys become quite apparent. Both are geared towards players looking for a more comfortable polyester response, but they go about it in slightly different ways.

Solinco Confidential Soft

  • Shape: Squared polyester.
  • Feel: Plush, softer, and control-focused.
  • Power: Low to medium.
  • Spin: High.
  • Key trait: Softer take on Confidential with directional control and added pop.

Solinco Hyper-G Soft

  • Shape: Shaped polyester.
  • Feel: Softer, more muted, and more elastic than regular Hyper-G.
  • Power: Medium.
  • Spin: High.
  • Key trait: Easier access to spin and comfort than standard Hyper-G.

On-court feel

Hyper-G Soft feels like the easier string to play with right away. In the Pure Aero 98 it gives a lively, spin-friendly answer which makes it easy to roll the ball and find shape from the baseline. In the Blade 98, it adds a bit more pop and liveliness to the stringbed, which some players will really enjoy if they want the Blade to feel a touch more open and forgiving.

Confidential Soft is a bit more polished, a bit more serious. It’s still softer and more plush than regular Confidential, but it retains that more directional, control-based DNA. That makes a lot of sense with the Blade 98 because it is working with the racquet, rather than trying to change the personality of the racquet. In the Pure Aero 98 it helps to calm the frame down a bit and gives you a more measured, more stable feel than Hyper-G Soft.

Spin, control and launch

If the primary things are spin and easier launch, I would choose Hyper-G Soft. It gives a little more help with shaping the ball up and over the net and in the Pure Aero 98, it can make the setup feel very user-friendly from the baseline. It still handles the ball well, but the reply is a bit more open and a bit less locked in than Confidential Soft.

The more control-led of the two is Confidential Soft. Still maintains the original Confidential DNA of directional control, feel, spin and trusted playability but with more plushness and pop. That’s pretty much how it feels on court as well. You still get spin, but the launch is more contained and the response more disciplined.

Comfort and playability

Both strings are clearly designed for players who want a softer poly experience, but they feel soft in different ways. Hyper-G Soft has that extra pliable, more forgiving softness that just feels easy to use right away, especially for players coming from firmer control polys. It has the shaped-poly personality of the Blade 98 and Pure Aero 98, but it feels friendly and playable.

Confidential Soft also feels plush, but denser and somewhat more in control. And it doesn’t feel squishy which is important. There’s comfort, but with a somewhat more defined structure underneath. I think that balance will be very appealing to players who want a softer string but don’t want to give up too much precision.

Durability and tension stability

This is probably where the two strings differ most significantly for me in practical terms. Hyper-G Soft is very playable, but softer strings do tend to lose tension a bit more quickly, and that’s a trade-off often associated with added comfort and power. It still plays well, but if you’re a heavy hitter you may find it loses some of its crispness faster than a firmer poly.

If you want a softer string but still want some of that Confidential style control and stability but with decent tension holding I feel Confidential is the better pick. It appears to be aimed at players that want better playability without completely leaving that stable, predictable response, as it is based on the original Confidential idea, just in a more comfortable version.

Who each string suits

Solinco Hyper-G Soft suits:

  • Intermediate to advanced players wanting easier spin and comfort.
  • Players who want a more forgiving shaped poly.
  • Baseliners who like a slightly higher launch and easier depth.

Solinco Confidential Soft suits:

  • Intermediate to advanced players wanting a softer control poly.
  • Players who want plushness without losing directional control.
  • Blade-style racquet users who want comfort without making the response too loose.

Verdict

If you want a soft poly that feels energetic, spin-friendly, and instantly playable, Hyper-G Soft is, in my opinion, the simpler choice. It works particularly well if you want a bit extra assistance with launch and depth in both the Blade 98 and the Babolat Pure Aero 98. It is suitable for a wide variety of players.

It seems like the more calculated and slightly more sophisticated choice is Confidential Soft. Although it retains more of the steady, directional control that stronger players frequently need from a polyester setup, it still offers comfort and a softer feel.

In summary, Hyper-G Soft is the better choice if you’re looking for a softer, livelier spin string. Choose Confidential Soft if you’re looking for a softer, more regulated string with better tension holding.
