POLL: The Best Tennis Strings?

What is your favorite string and string brand? Below you can vote on your favorite tennis strings and make sure to share your opinions in the comments below!

We recently voted on the best tennis balls where Wilson US Open was the winner among tennis nerds.

There are too many strings to mention so pick the brand that creates your favorite string. I will mention some example strings. Since the string jungle is so dense, I might have missed some brands, but I think the winner will be in this pretty long line-up.

Some would argue tennis strings is what has evolved the most in terms tennis gear. Sure, racquets are generally more powerful, lighter and easier to use than 20 years ago, but if you compare a natural gut string to a shaped co-poly, it is like you are playing a different sport. That does not mean polyester strings are for everyone. There are still many pros on tour using natural gut in a hybrid setup with a round poly string like Luxilon 4G, for example. The stiffness of the 4G is off-set by the power and softness of the gut. It creates a good blend that sounds and plays great. Still, I the next generation of pros are growing up on a full bed (or poly/poly) hybrids, and that is likely what we are going to see as a majority setup in the coming years.

We have a list of Recommended Strings, which we try to update as often as we can. We continuously test new strings and there are plenty of strings and brands coming all the time, which makes it challenging to keep up.

Sure, we have our list of favorites (which does change from time to time), but now we are keen to hear which string you think is best. Please vote and why not write a comment and tell us which string it is. Maybe even a tension recommendation to help fellow tennis nerds?

  1. Luxilon still best, Solinco are very good, these two brand can suit almost every racket. Babolat,Head and Yonex are solid better suited for their own brand rackets but good for others too. Toroline and Grapplelsnake is up and coming to very good, the contemporary strings. Also underrate but not shown, and should definitely give a try, Quality Sport

  2. Tru Pro is my favorite budget brand listed (Pure Rush mains, Ghost wire crosses), but I gotta shout-out Velociti for their biodegradable poly Catalyst and biodegradable synthetic gut NEH, and their fun rainbow synthetic gut.

  3. Luxilon strings are very good but very expensive. I really like the 4G in my current racket. If I played with a more forgiving racket regarding strings I would pick Toroline as they have awesome strings.

  4. So hard to choose between all your lovely children, but Solinco covers almost all the bases at a competitive price – there’s a reason it’s my top seller as a local stringer!

  5. PolyTour Pro Yellow 48 Lbs in Ezone 100
Words are not sufficient to describe the first two sessions with this string. God may as well have sent this string for us to use.

  6. I tried the Torroline A5 (fullbed) in my Babolat Pure Aero 98 and I was totally satisfied!
    ?

  7. There is no perfect string that suits everyone. Different strings suit different players. REcent strings from Solinco (Confidential Soft) and some playtest strings from Tru Pro as well as some from Diadem (Solstice Black) are good mains for me. Paired with a round poly and I am good to go!

    1. Hi Ty … not just my opinion but Toroline’s Wasabi X is a great round poly cross string … super slick and better than average tension maintenance … also very affordable $12

  8. Toroline for me. Great performance, decent time maintaining freshness, and most of their line up presenting a stiffness rating that does not crush my beaten up tendons from 30 years of tennis.

  9. I love the Grapplesnake Tour M8 in my Head Graphene 360 Speed MP. Has everything I need. Spin and controll with good durability

  10. Solinco clears by far – premium feel, durability, tension retention, price – it is just a perfect amalgamation.

  11. Hybrid of solinco mach 10 1.20 in the main and Signum pro plasma pure 1.18 in the cross is magic

  12. Currently using black code but with so many options and being someone that has to pay for strings, I have no brand loyalty.

  13. Another vote for MSV. Have tried all sorts of strings from almost all major brands, but ever since I switched to MSV Focus Hex Ultra I haven’t looked back. Fantastic string that does everything well.

  14. I think Luxilon make the best strings but they just don’t hold tension as much as other poly. I used Element on the mains with Wilson NXT on the cross for a while. Lately though since I have s string machine I’ve been trying different hybrids out. Right now I have Toroline O-Toro on main with A5 on the cross and I like it a lot. On another racket I have Solinco Mach 10 on the mains with Tour Bite on the cross.

  15. Toroline string in general are very awesome. They had something in common with Restring: the consistent snapback. I pushed one time every string I tested after their limits: after 15 hours, Toroline’s one keep a consistent snapback that make lauch angle very predictable, even if the tension dropped a lot and now your racquet is a rocket launcher.
More “historical” brands like Tecnifibre, Solinco, they didn’t nailed this aspect. Even one of the more appreciated string like Hyper G after 8 hours feels pretty unpredictable et unusable; unlike Toroline that if still usable, if you’re ok with tension loss, until 10-11h (on a club level, it help reducing the cost).
    My favourites are:
    – wasabi X for the soft poly (to put in an already spin friendly racquet, in order to get a more precise lauch angle)
-o toro octa for the well rounded racquets (speed mp, ezone 98, prince tour 100): nice blend of spin and control
    – wasabi X crosses and wasabi in the mains, for people who want a bit more spin (if their racquets is lacking in order to to enhance spin, or if you have heavy spin style of play and setup like Nadal or Ruud style of game)

  16. Honestly polytour pro is amazing and it plays so well in the ezone but it does cost a bit more.

  17. Solinco is probably the overall best brand for strings right now but my personal favorite is Grapplesnake.

  18. I always come back to Head RIP Control as string in the mains combined with other string as crosses. Head RIP Control always works with every racket and then start fine tuning with what works as hybrid.

  19. Have Wilson natural gut with poly tour rev in a vcore 95 at 54/52 . Seems to work well with a nice crisp feel.

    1. nice, im similar, looking to do NG too, must be awesome feel, control, power. hows pricepoint? an how often do you play/restring @ 10<15+ hrs?

  20. Toroline A5, O-toro tour and Truffle X are my favorite strings. I use A5 in the mains as a hybrid with Truffle in the crosses for a softer feeling string for arm comfort and then for tournaments i use O-Toro Tour in the mains with A5 in the crosses

  21. For those of us with tennis elbow, Technifibre X-One Biphase, has provided me a softer Hopefully in the long term a cure to the pain that has appeared when I returned to playing tennis.

  22. Head Lynx Tour is my go to in my Speed MP. But I’m intrigued by Confidential soft and just picked up a couple sets. Restring Zero is very good too and was my primary in my previous racquet (Radical). I also like TruPro Pure Rush and MSV Hex Soft. They are excellent budget strings. ALU Power is great in a hybrid but it dies too quick.

  23. I have played with several different Solinco strings … Hyper G was my introduction to poly … currently playing with two Toroline strings and I am pretty sure my string odyssey is over … Wasabi X in the mains at 44 lbs and Enso Pro in the crosses at 41 lbs in a 105 sq inch Ezone … both round and very slick strings as you probably know … great snap back and at at that low tension feels like gut … also the best pocketing I’ve ever experienced … try it ?

  24. I have used the luxilon alu power with the technifibre x one biphase. Excellent hybrid but to costly. Now I use solinco confidential with head velocity mlt.

  25. Toroline A5 is the best string I’ve ever used. Phenomenal control without sacrificing court penetration and power.

  26. Currently got 3 go to rackets in my 13+quiver lol , No 1 go to in singles & doubles is Control/Spin/Volley=Yonex VC95 Beige with Yonex Rev M @ 54lbs /Yonex Force C @52lbs, BaselineSingles= Head Prestige Pro YouTek 98 with Yonex PPT @ 54lbs , & Power/Spin= Yonex VC98 with Yonex Rev M @56lbs /PPT C @54lbs. Im having great fun with these set ups & enjoying Tennis , either practicing solo with ball machine, serve practice, mad social games or comp tennis , only downside is with getting better at tennis & more court time notice fall off, tension loss sooner so more restrings . went from playing 30+hrs each racket ( 2-4hr sessions<6-8days, 2-4weeks) Now down to 20hrs if want to keep consistant feel/control. but hey trade offs. Great job you doing TennisNerd . ps Yonex Shanghi Masters Ball, Dosnt fluff as much as Wilson Champ, felt lasts longer , retains better pressure longer, We play on smooth to Quite rough/gritty HC in Christchurch, NZ. OK im off for a hit out. Swing Freely.

  27. Shame more ppl do not know about volkl cyclone. The spin, softness and budget friendliness that makes it awesome. Highly recommended yellow or black (not orange).
