The 5 Best Tennis Strings for Spin – 2026 Playtest

Playtests – These picks are all spin-first strings, but they each go about it a bit differently. Some get their bite from slick snapback, others from aggressive shaped edges, and a couple even sneak in decent tension stability without giving up the RPMs.

Strings ranked:

  1. HighString Zeus
  2. Restring Zero
  3. Silvester Hepta-Plus
  4. String Kong Gorilla-5 Anthracite 1.25
  5. Genesis Hexa Infinite Black 1.23

Ranking table (independent playtests, not lab data)

5 Genesis Hexa Infinite 1.23 8.9 8.0 8.1 7.8 7.2

HighString Zeus 2.0 1.25mm

Spin:

This is the most complete spin package on the list: serious bite plus that slick snapback that makes your heavy crosscourts kick up and bite.

Playability:

Feels modern and confidence-inspiring, you can really rip through the ball knowing the window’s there for you. It rewards fast swings without going haywire.

Tension holding:

One of the standouts here for staying composed. Doesn’t suddenly turn into a launcher; it eases off gradually so you can keep trusting it.

Comfort:

No pillow feel, but way friendlier than most aggressive shaped polys. Perfect if you want top performance without that harsh, boardy thud.

Why it’s #1: The spin is elite, but what seals it is how it plays like a proper match string hour after hour not just a one-session wonder.

HighString Zeus

Silvester Hepta-Plus 1.24mm

Spin:

Classic shaped-poly bite, you can really feel those edges digging in to lift the ball late and get that heavy, nasty dip.

Playability:

Super spin-friendly, but it’s a bit more specialist than Zeus. You need to commit to the brush and shape to get the best out of it.

Tension holding:

Very good, not quite as bulletproof as the very best, but still impressive for a shaped poly that prioritises bite.

Comfort:

Better than you’d expect from its aggressive profile. Not plush, but it won’t punish you unless you crank the tension way up.

Why it’s #2: Pure spin weapon that still feels like a serious match setup, not just a gimmick.

Silvester Hepta Plus

Restring Zero 1.23mm

Spin:

More “snapback and friction” than sharp edge bite,  it generates heavy rotation without feeling grabby or over-the-top.

Playability:

This is where Zero really shines: super predictable and modern, with that easy-to-use feel. Great stringbed feedback without bouncing too wildly.

Tension holding:

One of the best here, stays consistent and doesn’t suddenly drop off a cliff.

Comfort:

Feels a notch more forgiving than the really sharp shaped strings. Perfect if your arm likes a smoother, less jarring response.

Why it’s #3: Restring Zero is not the absolute highest-RPM king, but probably the smartest all-rounder blending spin, consistency, and day-to-day usability.

Restring Zero strings

String Kong Gorilla-5 Anthracite 1.25mm

Spin:

Big, in-your-face bite, the kind of string that makes the ball absolutely jump off the court and punish your opponent.

Playability:

Explosive and super fun in that early window, loads of spin but it can get a bit unpredictable later depending on your tension and how you hit.

Tension holding:

Not bad at all, but definitely not elite. You’ll feel it change a fair bit sooner than Zeus or Zero.

Comfort:

More on the “performance firm” side than plush or forgiving. Fine for healthy arms; if yours is sensitive, I’d tread carefully.

Why it’s #4: The spin is absolutely top-tier, but the consistent playability window just isn’t as rock-solid as the top three.

String Kong Gorilla

Genesis Hexa Infinite Black 1.23mm

Spin:

Great spin potential for the price and gauge,  solid bite that gives you good access to shape without much effort.

Playability:

Really usable day-to-day, especially if you want serious spin without paying boutique prices. It has that straightforward “poly feel” rather than anything too fancy or premium.

Tension holding:

Good but not standout. It stays playable longer than most budget options, though you’ll notice it softening and losing some crispness earlier than the top tier.

Comfort:

On the firmer side at 1.23mm. Totally manageable for most, but it won’t win any prizes for arm-friendliness here.

Why it’s #5: Fantastic spin for the money, but it doesn’t quite match the refinement or stability of the top four.

Genesis Hexa

In summary

Standouts like HighString Zeus and Silvester Hepta-Plus feel like the most well-rounded spin machines, delivering serious edge bite and slick snapback while still giving you control you can count on across multiple sessions. Restring Zero hangs just behind as a smarter all-court pick with a bit more comfort and day-long consistency, while Gorilla-5 and Genesis Hexa Infinite crank out impressive RPMs at a friendlier price, just don’t expect them to stay crisp forever.

I don’t think there is a spin string that suits all players. Some reward those fast, loopy swings with explosive dip but you can end up having to restring too often, while others dial back the raw bite just enough to stay predictable and arm-friendly longer. Overall for me Zeus wins hands down.  It delivers seriously impressive spin for a round string, has incredible control and tension holding well into hours 12-14.

  1. Hi Chris,

In other String Reviews you’ve rated Highstring Zeus 2.0 as the superior string for spin. What is the material difference between the new edition and the older versions (black & red colours) of Highstring Zeus? I’m enticed by the red colour option of the original Zeus, but would like to choose superior performance, if the Zeus 2.0 can provide that.

Thank you very much for your reviews! I’m very excited to buy ASAP a reel of a Sicilian spin string with the mightiest name on the market!

    Kind regards,

    Finno-Italian spin enthusiast Alexander
