In a blow to his career-best season, British no 1 Jack Draper has announced he will miss the rest of the 2025 ATP Tour due to an ongoing arm injury. The news brings a difficult end to a year that saw the 23-year-old get to a new career-high ranking and winning his first ATP Masters 1000 title.
Draper made the announcement on social media, revealing that the persistent arm issue requires a period of rest to heal fully.
“Unfortunately, the injury to my arm is something I have to rest and means I’ll be sitting out the rest of 2025,” Draper wrote. “It is very difficult for me to accept as I was building some incredible momentum this year and playing some great stuff.”
The injury, which has been diagnosed as bone bruising in his left arm, first flared up during the clay-court season and forced him to withdraw from his second-round match at the US Open. Draper had only recently returned to competition after a seven-week layoff following his second-round exit at Wimbledon. Despite his initial return, the pain intensified, leading to the decision to shut down his season.
The setback is quite painful given the momentum Draper had built up where he entered the top 5 of the ATP rankings. He started the year with a strong 30-9 record, highlighted by a great run and the victory at the Indian Wells Masters in March, where he defeated top players including Carlos Alcaraz. He also reached the final of the Madrid Open back in May.
This season-ending injury dashes his hopes of qualifying for the year-end ATP Finals in Turin for the first time. The British star was sitting at No. 9 in the race for the prestigious tournament and was in prime position to make a final push.
This is not the first time the left-hander has been sitting out due to injury. He has battled various physical issues, including a shoulder injury that sidelined him in 2023.
Despite the disappointment, Draper remains optimistic. “I’ve been through this before… and I always come back stronger as I’m so motivated to fulfil my potential as a player,” he stated.
