Bianca Andreescu’s new racquet and outlook on life

Bianca Andreescu is back on tour in fine form with a new racquet and outlook on life. What is Andreescu’s new racquet?

After struggling with injuries for years, Andreescu is back to winning ways on the WTA Tour. She is in the round of 32 at the Italian Open in Rome and currently leading Elena Rybakina 5-1 in the opening set.

Bianca Andreescu’s racquet

Andreescu has been using HEAD Speed and HEAD Extreme racquets for a long time, but has now made a switch. โ€œMy coach last year, J.T. [Nishimura], he played with Yonex. It was kind of a spontaneous thing: I broke two strings, I didnโ€™t have any more racquets, I tried his racquet and I was like, โ€˜Holy shit, this is nice!โ€™ It just kind of went along with that.

โ€œFor me, it was the control aspect, but also being able to have my variety. I added a little bit of weight to the sides, and thatโ€™s helping with my serve to have a bit more pop. I just feel more comfortable with it.โ€

So Bianca is now with the same style of racquet as Madison Keys famously switched at the beginning of the year. However, it does look like Andreescu is using the 100 sq inch version, whereas Keys went for the 98. But Andreescu came from a 100 sq inch HEAD racquet and Keys was playing a 98 sq inch Blade Pro.

Her strings look to be Yonex Poly Tour Rev orange, a spin-oriented poly string.

The racquet is not the only change

According to the article on tennis.com, she has radically changed her nutrition plan. She is now gluten- and dairy-free and clearly leaner and stronger. Quite a contrast from the teenager who celebrated her US Open title with cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery. And she has also revealed that she is six months sober.

Iโ€™m not wasting any more time. Everything needs to be perfect and the standards need to be high, for myself, for my team, and everyone in my life

How will these changes affect Andreescu’s tennis results? By the looks of it, potentially very positively. But time will tell. It is clear, though, that she is embracing a more professional outlook on her career, and that can only be good.
