Bio and Career
Michael Zheng grew up in Montville, New Jersey. He started playing tennis at age six after his father, who had a strong interest in tennis. When Zheng was around nine or ten, he was accepted into an elite junior development program run by the USTA at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York. He attended Delbarton School and Dwight School, winning the New Jersey State Singles Championship in 2021 before leaving early to focus on his tennis career.
As a junior, he reached the 2022 Wimbledon Boys Singles final. Afterward, he joined Columbia University, where he quickly made history. Zheng became the first men’s tennis player in Ivy League history to earn Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and First Team All-Ivy honors in both singles and doubles in a single season. He also became Columbia’s first NCAA singles finalist, later capturing the 2025 NCAA Individual Singles Championship – the first Ivy League player to do so since 1922.
On the professional circuit, Zheng has earned success on the ATP Challenger Tour, winning the Chicago Men’s Challenger in 2025 and reaching a career-high ATP singles ranking of No. 227. He has also competed in doubles, achieving a career-high ranking inside the world’s top 500.
