wilson rush tour 5 review

The Wilson Rush Tour 5 (AC) positions itself as a robust option for players who prioritise lateral stability and energy return. It is designed specifically for aggressive movers, those who rely on quick cuts and intense baseline movement.

Both me and Henrik have tested the Rush Tour 5 recently and we’ve really enjoyed playing with these shoes.

Here is a breakdown of the core technologies / features as well as our thoughts from play testing.

The Build and Stability

The standout feature of the Rush Tour 5 is the Speed Carbon Fiber Plate. It incorporates Wilson’s FortyFive technology, using the same 45-degree carbon-weave concept found in Wilson racquet technology and adapted here to provide lateral stability. The goal is to provide a stiff, secure feel that prevents the foot from rolling during sudden changes in direction, while simultaneously assisting with energy return during explosive steps.

Upper and Comfort

Wilson utilizes a Gammaweave mesh upper to balance durability with breathability. To address the specific needs of hard-court players, the shoe includes reinforced layers at the toe and on the medial side – high-wear areas prone to dragging during serves or aggressive slides. Internally, the Endofit construction provides a sock-like fit that wraps around the foot, aiming to reduce internal shifting during play.

Stability Chassis

The TPU Stability Chassis with Ceramic 5D reinforces the shoe’s structure, providing additional lateral stability during aggressive changes of direction. The ceramic-infused TPU also helps protect high-wear areas from abrasion, particularly for players who rely on hard-court slides.

Midsole and Cushioning

The cushioning system is a hybrid approach, using two different foam technologies:

  • R-DST+ EVA: Located in the heel to manage impact shock.
  • Peba Super Foam: Situated under the forefoot to provide a more responsive, energetic feel for take-offs.
  • A super-compressed EVA sockliner adds an additional layer of underfoot comfort.

Outsole and Traction

The shoe features a Duralast rubber outsole designed with a modified herringbone pattern. This compound is engineered for high density, allowing it to withstand the abrasive nature of hard courts while providing consistent grip across various court surfaces.

FeaturePerformance Benefit
TractionUses the Duralast rubber compound with a modified herringbone pattern for grip on all surfaces.
FitFeatures the Endofit inner sock construction for a snug, locked-in feel.
DurabilityIncludes Ceramic 5D reinforcements on the toe and medial side to protect against foot dragging.
CushioningA mix of R-DST+ EVA in the heel for impact protection and Pebax in the front for speed.

Key Specifications:

  • Surface: All-Court (optimized for hard courts).
  • Weight: Approximately 423 grams (based on a US men’s size 10.5).
  • Fit Profile: Generally considered a snug medium width, running true to size, maybe slightly smaller.
  • Break-in: Minimal break-in period required.

Henrik’s Review

A stable shoe, even for a heavyweight like me. Fits the foot well. No hotspots at all in the shoe. Ready right out of the box. Great to look at. Good tread pattern for both hard courts and clay. However, a slightly soft sole that wears down a bit too quickly on hard courts, but overall one of the best shoes on the market right now.

Stefan’s Review

A really comfortable shoe right from the start, it really locks on the foot and it doesn’t really need any break-in period. Probably not the most durable on the market and it will run slightly warmer than a lightweight speed shoe even though it’s fairly breathable due to the Gammaweave mesh upper. However, one of the best shoes I’ve tried for hard court sessions, good stability, good for quick moves and looks good as well. As for size, stick to your usual size or go up half a size I would say.
