The ATP 500 Mubadala DC Open (ATP500 Washington) runs from 27 July to 2 August at the FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington, D.C and it should be a good start to the North American hard-court swing. The 2026 tournament offers $2,469,450 in total prize money, with the singles champion receiving $461,835.

The main draw nowadays consists of 32 players and it runs Monday through Thursday (27-30 July), with quarterfinals on July 31 and semifinals on August 1.

The Seeds

The eight seeds are: Alex de Minaur, Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz, Lorenzo Musetti, Learner Tien, Frances Tiafoe, Jakub Mensik and Arthur Fils.

Key Draw Matchups

Alex de Minaur headlines the draw with a first-round meeting against Stefanos Tsitsipas. If De Minaur advances, he could eventually meet seventh seed Jakub Mensik in the quarter-finals and Taylor Fritz in the semis.

In a battle between two of the Tour’s hottest prospects, eighth seed Arthur Fils and 19-year-old Spaniard Rafael Jodar will meet in a first-round blockbuster. Taylor Fritz opens against Zizou Bergs, who won his maiden tour-level title on grass in Eastbourne in June. Fritz, who reached the semi-finals in Washington in 2023, could play Tommy Paul in the second round.

All Italian match-up Arnaldi vs Musetti as well as Michelsen vs Draper are other great battles to look forward to in the first round.

Tournament Structure

The reduction from 48 to 32 players significantly increases the level of competition as there are no byes for the seeds, meaning top seeds must play from the first round.

Playing Conditions

Washington’s summer weather is an important factor. Hot and humid conditions can make matches physically demanding, while rain and thunderstorms can also cause interruptions. The conditions generally suit aggressive hardcourt tennis, with players able to get plenty of reward from strong serving and taking the ball early.
