Tru Pro Pure Rush R8ZOR vs Pure Rush – Which is Better?

Pure Rush R8ZOR from Tru Pro

I recently got my hands on a few sets of Tru Pro’s new string Pure Rush R8ZOR and thought I’d compare it to the existing Pure Rush. Immediately I would say Pure Rush is the more well-rounded and easy-to-like choice, while Pure Rush R8ZOR is the more aggressive, spin-focused version that requires more from the player.

If you want the short version, Pure Rush is the safest choice for most club and competitive players because it combines power, feel, and comfort in a way that feels more natural. If you want the most bite, a firmer response, and a more controlled path when swinging fast, R8ZOR is the one I’d pick.

Tech & specs

Pure Rush

  • Type: Co-polyester monofilament
  • Shape: 6-sided
  • Feel: Firm / crisp
  • Power: Low to moderate
  • Spin: Moderate to high
  • Key trait: Control + tension stability

Pure Rush R8ZOR

  • Type: Co-polyester monofilament
  • Shape: 8-sided / sharper profile
  • Feel: Crisp / firmer
  • Power: Low
  • Spin: High
  • Key trait: More bite, more directional control

On-court feel

To me, Pure Rush feels more complete and forgiving. The response is cleaner and a little smoother off the bed, and there is a little more easy depth without feeling wild, which is in line with what TRU PRO says about smooth power, pocketing, and elevated feel.

On the other hand, R8ZOR is the more spin focused choice. The stringbed feels sharper and a little firmer, and the ball seems to come off with more bite and a “grabby” response. It can feela  bit rigid at times.  I felt the sweet spot for me was at about 48lbs in the Pure Aero 98. I enjoyed it more in the Head Speed MP, seemed to suit that frame far better.

Spin, control and launch

This is where R8ZOR has the upper hand in my view. The sharper profile is clearly meant to give you more bite, and the official product copy talks a lot about spin-loaded performance and all-court precision – I’d agree with that.

On the court, it gave me confidence to swing through at pace. The launch feels a little more controlled, the ball shape is heavier, and the overall response is more directional, especially if you already set your own pace.

Pure Rush still has spin because it is shaped, but it doesn’t feel as extreme vs R8ZOR I would say that it feels more natural and less “edgy,” which is good for players who don’t want every stringbed to feel stiff or too mechanical.

Comfort and playability

If comfort is your priority, Pure Rush is the better choice. I would say it is a great choice for players who want a modern poly response without the harshness of some control-oriented strings. It focuses on an arm-friendly playing experience, ball pocketing, and an elevated feel.

TRU PRO calls R8ZOR responsive and arm-friendly, but the sharper shape and more control-focused response came at the expense of a firmer feel in my view that can feel slightly too rigid at times. When you actually swing through, it feels like the kind of string that rewards clean contact moreso.

That makes the split pretty easy. I’d go for Pure Rush for overall playability and R8ZOR if your main goal is massive spin but with a controlled firm response.

Durability and tension stability

Both strings are advertised as being very durable and stable under tension. TRU PRO uses that language directly for Pure Rush and R8ZOR, so neither is being marketed as a soft, short-lived poly.

The main difference for me is how quickly tension drops off.  As Pure Rush softens, you do lose that control and the strings do feel a bit deadened after several hours heavy hitting. On the other hand, R8ZOR seems to retain its spin and control quite a bit longer.  I also felt like it stayed playable even after several hitting sessions and notching was minimal.

Who each string suits

Pure Rush suits:

  • Players who want an all-round co-poly with a smoother response/feel.
  • Baseliners who value easy depth and comfort but want good access to spin.
  • Players who like shaped polys but do not want the stringbed to feel too rigid.

Pure Rush R8ZOR suits:

  • Aggressive baseliners who want more bite and directional control.
  • Competitive players who shape the ball aggressively and want a lower, more contained trajectory.
  • All-court players looking for a more precise, spin-loaded response.

Verdict – Tru Pro Pure Rush R8ZOR vs Pure Rush

I think Pure Rush is the choice for most players because it feels more balanced and would suit a wider range of racquets and styles of play. It has a smooth, controlled response that usually works right away without much tweaking.

I’d say R8ZOR feels like the more specialized string, and everything about its design seems geared towards players who swing with purpose and want sharper spin, better control and a more aggressive response.

So, for me, the answer is easy: Pure Rush is better for most people, but R8ZOR is better if your focus is pure spin and control (but with a firmer feel). If you want a friendlier all-arounder, go with Pure Rush.
