In some more entertaining news… rapper Drake is once again making headlines in the sports world, not for a new song, but for another high-stakes wager. The artist, known for sharing his big tennis bets, has placed a $300,000 bet on world No. 1 Jannik Sinner to win the US Open. Not exactly an impossible scenario after seeing the Italians form recently, but a lot of money at risk.
Drake shared a screenshot of the betting slip from the Stake sportsbook on social media on Tuesday, revealing the six-figure gamble. If Sinner, who is the defending champion and in top form, goes on to win the tournament, Drake will cash in a nice sum of $507,000.

The bet has started discussion among sports fans, largely due to the rapper’s history with public wagers, a phenomenon often referred to as the “Drake Curse.” This so-called curse has been blamed for a number of high-profile losses, including a previous tennis bet of $210K on Taylor Fritz to defeat Sinner in the 2024 US Open final.
His betting isn’t limited to tennis only. He lost another $300,000 at the 2024 Copa América when Canada lost to Argentina in the semi’s, that was quite a gamble bit it would have paid around $2.9m if successful.
However, the curse is not always there and it seems he is down $115,000 overall in tennis betting, he did successfully pick Sinner winning the Australian Open final earlier this year, for example.
Despite the mixed results, Drake continues to back top athletes, probably it’s just as much a marketing stunt.
Sinner is currently in the quarterfinals after a very dominant victory over Alexander Bublik and is the favorite to win the tournament among betting sites. We’re looking forward to seeing him against fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti in his next match. A win there will get him into the final vs Alcaraz (again) or Djokovic.
