ATP Washington Kicks Off North American Hard-Court Swing

Mubadala Citi DC Open as it’s officially called, starts today, and begins the US/Canadian hard-court swing where players are gearing up for the US Open later in the summer.

This is the only combined ATP/WTA 500 event, and one of the few tournaments that hasn’t changed much recently. Starting today, July 21, 2025, at Washington, D.C.’s William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center.

Running through July 27, this seven-day tournament feature a lot of the top ranked players. Top seed Jessica Pegula, as well as Emma Navarro, headlines the women’s draw, joined by Grand Slam champions Emma Raducanu, Elena Rybakina, Naomi Osaka and Venus Williams, who returns after a year off tour. Wimbledon runner-up Amanda Anisimova and Katie Boulter also compete, with Raducanu facing Marta Kostyuk in the first round.

On the men’s side, Taylor Fritz, Lorenzo Musetti, Ben Shelton, Holger Rune and Medvedev are some of the top names favoured to lift the trophy in the capital. Expect home players Fritz and Shelton to be in the spotlight as they are both in good form and non of them have reached the final here.

The $2,396,115 prize pool offers $420,525 for the singles winner, plus 500 ranking points. “This is a critical juncture,” said tournament director Daniel Vallverdu, noting its US Open prep role.

Held at the 7,500-seat Rock Creek Park Tennis Center, the event supports the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation, aiding local youth through tennis and education programs. With youth clinics, food markets and open practices, the tournament is important for community engagement.
