HEAD Boom Pro or MP?

Written by: Jonas Eriksson | January 20, 2022

Many of my fellow tennis nerds are asking for racquet comparisons, so here is one more. HEAD Boom Pro or MP?

The HEAD Boom racquets were released today. The most interesting choice for intermediate to advanced players is whether you go for the HEAD Boom Pro or MP. In the video below you can hear my thoughts about these two racquet models.

You can purchase a Boom racquet or other tennis gear from Tennis Warehouse, Tennis Warehouse Europe or Tennis Only. I get a small commission if you use my links at no extra cost to you. Thanks.

Head Boom Pro or MP?

I will not only do comparisons in between the same racquet family. You saw perhaps my Head Ezone racquet comparison, but in the past I have also done comparison like HEAD Extreme Tour vs Babolat Pure Aero VS. Two racquets within the same category and for the same target group, but from different brands. If you have any particular racquet models you would like to see compared, let me know in the comments.

If you want to read my reviews for each model, click here for the HEAD Boom Pro review and here for the HEAD Boom MP Review.

In the end, I prefer the slightly customized MP. It’s a bit too light in stock form, but just 2-3 grams at 12 and a leather grip has made it more solid, stable and powerful. It had a low swing weight (275 unstrung) and needed more mass. But when customized it is then a bit plusher and more forgiving than the Pro.

The Pro is generally the choice for more advanced players. But I think you also need to prefer a crisper/stiffer feel. It’s also a good racquet and I like them both, but I prefer the slightly plusher feel of the MP. This one is more comparable to a Pure Strike 98 in my opinion and I prefer the softer response from the Extreme Tour.

Boom Summary

The new HEAD Boom racquets are great frames for aggressive baseliners. The Pro I feel is a good choice for advanced attackers who want extra pop on their strokes (it’s GREAT on volleys), while the MP is less good at the net but more forgiving elsewhere. It also has a bit better feel on touch shots.

Tough choice. I hope it makes your decision a tiny bit easier if you’re choosing between these two!

Which one would you go for and why?

  1. Thanks for the review of the MP and Pro Boom! I tested the MP today and liked how it played; if I buy it will add the customizations you suggest.
