After a disappointing first-round exit in the French Open, Taylor Fritz will now be looking forward to the grass-court season. The American is still vying for his maiden Grand Slam title, and he will feel he will be in the mix for the trophy at Wimbledon in London.
Fritz is the highest-ranked American player in the world, and he has been long tipped to be the first men’s Grand Slam winner from the USA since Andy Roddick in 2003.
Good Record on Grass
With three ATP titles on grass, Fritz knows how to win tournaments on the surface. He has also reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in two of the last three years. The American is 33/1 in the tennis odds to prevail in the Grand Slam event at SW19 in 2025.
One of the biggest threats to Fritz will be Jannik Sinner. He is the 7/5 favourite in the Wimbledon odds to defend his crown in London. The world number one used his big serve to his advantage last year, and the American star will be hoping to do the same in his bid for the title.
Fritz will warm up for Wimbledon with an appearance at the Eastbourne International. He is a three-time winner of the ATP 250 event, including a victory in 2024 when he beat Australian Max Purcell in the final.
Number Four in World Rankings
The eight-time ATP Tour winner jumped to a career-high number four in the world rankings back in November. He has been able to defend that position just behind the top three players in the standings.
Fritz ended the 2024 by finishing runner-up in the ATP World Tour Finals. He was beaten in the final by Sinner. The American defeated Daniil Medvedev and Alex de Minau in the group stages. He then booked his spot in the final with a triumph over Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals.
The talented singles and doubles player was part of the USA team that won the United Cup in Sydney earlier this year. As well as a pursuit of the singles title at Wimbledon, he is likely to enter the men’s doubles competition too alongside Karen Khachanov. The pair reached the final of the Queen’s Club Championship last season, so they have shown they can be a dangerous force on grass.
US Open Final
Fritz made it through to his first Grand Slam final last year at the US Open. He recorded notable wins over Matteo Berrettini, Casper Ruud, Zverev and Frances Tiafoe before making the final. Unfortunately for the American, he went down in straight sets to Sinner.
It was a great occasion for Fritz to play in front of his home supporters in a Grand Slam final. He became the first American to reach a US Open final since 2006 and the first to appear in a Grand Slam final since 2009.
Last season proved to be a consistent year for Fritz as he advanced to the last eight or better in three of the four Grand Slam events. Unfortunately for him, the best he has done so far in 2025 is the third round of the Australian Open.
If Fritz can lift the title at Wimbledon in the final on the 13th of July, it will be a huge milestone in his career.
