It’s quarterfinal day at the ATP Beijing and some interesting matchups for sure. Here’s a preview for two of today’s matches, Alexander Zverev vs. Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev vs. Francisco Cerundolo, with our betting predictions.
Alexander Zverev vs Novak Djokovic
A great matchup for the fans of course. The top seed is in good form, fresh off winning his second major title at the US Open and sitting at 58-14 for the season. He had no trouble with home wildcard Shang Juncheng in round two, winning 6-0, 6-3 in just 55 minutes with nine aces.
Djokovic, the 6th seed, had to work much harder to get here, needing three sets to get past Bu Yunchaokete, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2. He still carries an incredible record in Beijing, though, having never lost a match at this event in his career, a 31-0 record that includes six titles.
Djokovic leads the head-to-head 9-5, and per the ATP he also won their most recent meeting, at Roland Garros in 2025.
Predictions
Djokovic’s perfect record in Beijing is the kind of stat that never fully goes away, and he’s the best player in history at finding another gear when he’s under pressure. He is clearly not physically 100 percent and it might be an issue against the top ranked. In fact he took a medical timeout in both his matches so far.
Zverev’s level this season, particularly on hard courts, has been a notch above most, and he’s after that World no 1 ranking. Djokovic’s three-set battle on Friday won’t make this quarterfinal any easier either. I’ll side with the in-form player to take this in straight sets and we’ll see Novak’s first loss in Beijing.
My bet: Zverev to win in two sets
Daniil Medvedev vs Francisco Cerundolo
Medvedev has now reached the quarterfinals in Beijing for the fourth consecutive year, and he looks sharp, beating Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4, 6-3 on Saturday. He’s the 2023 finalist here and even beat Zverev in Beijing last year.
Cerundolo played one of his best matches of the season to take down Jakub Mensik 6-3, 6-3 in just 76 minutes, reaching the quarterfinals in Beijing for the first time. He’s 22nd in the world and arrives after coming from a set down against Botic van de Zandschulp in round one.
Cerundolo leads the head-to-head 1-0, from a three-set win over Medvedev at the Miami Masters this year, 6-0, 4-6, 7-5.
Predictions and best bets
Two players in good form and I’m looking forward to this match. Cerundolo has the head-to-head and the confidence of having already solved Medvedev once this year, but the Russian is starting to show that level of tennis again that we know he can reach. He looks in superb form and loves it here on the slow courts in Beijing.
My bet: Medvedev to win in three sets, at odds 3.60 or +260.
