Canadian tennis star Félix Auger-Aliassime has officially added former world No. 3 Ivan Ljubicic to his coaching team.
Auger-Aliassime confirmed the partnership on social media, sharing his enthusiasm for the new chapter with Ljubicic. “Excited to start a new chapter with Ivan. Let’s get to work,” the Canadian wrote.
The appointment brings plenty of high-level experience into Auger-Aliassime’s corner. Ljubicic is best known for his successful coaching partnership Roger Federer, working with the 20-time Grand Slam champion from 2016 until Federer’s retirement in 2022.
During their partnership, Federer won three Grand Slam titles: the 2017 Australian Open, the 2017 Wimbledon Championships and the 2018 Australian Open. Federer also returned to the world No. 1 ranking in 2018.
Ljubicic has also previously coached another Canadian star, Milos Raonic, during a highly successful period that saw Raonic reach a career-high ranking of world No. 3 and the 2016 Wimbledon final.
The move comes after Auger-Aliassime ended his nearly 10-year partnership with coach Frederic Fontang following Wimbledon earlier this year. The Canadian, currently ranked No. 5 in the world, has now clearly established himself among the game’s elite and has reached two US Open semifinals, in 2021 and 2025.
The partnership with Ljubicic now gives Auger-Aliassime an experienced voice in his corner as he looks to build on those deep Grand Slam runs and challenge for the biggest titles.
Despite taking on the new coaching role, Ljubicic will continue his existing responsibilities with the French Tennis Federation (FFT), where he serves as a special adviser to FFT president Gilles Moretton.
The new partnership is set to begin at the Shanghai Masters. This will be interesting to follow, FAA needs another step up in his level to reach the very top.
