RPM Blast vs O-Toro Spin: Two Spin Strings Put to the Test

I have used both of these strings in the Head Speed MP and also in the Tecnifibre TF40 to get a good idea of how they would behave in both a more open, easy-power frame and a more controlled player’s racquet. This is helpful because the same string can feel very different depending on the frame and these two setups illustrate that contrast quite nicely. Both RPM Blast and Toroline O-Toro Spin are polyester strings that are spin-oriented, but they act a bit differently in terms of control, feel and launch.

On-court feel

RPM Blast remains the benchmark for many players seeking a direct, controlled polyester response. In the Head Speed MP it adds a little more discipline to the frame so the ball doesn’t just fly off the strings with no intention. That same firmness is even more useful in the TF40 as it matches the racquet’s controlled nature and provides a very precise and predictable feel on contact.

The O-Toro Spin is a bit softer and a bit more playable right out of the gate. It’s got the shaped-poly grip on the ball that the RPM Blast has, but the response feels softer and a little more forgiving. That can be a very useful combination in the Speed MP as it helps to harness the racquet’s natural power without making the whole setup feel too stiff or too one-dimensional. In the TF40, it adds a little more easy access to spin and depth, which can help the frame feel more open without losing its control identity.

Spin, control and launch

This is the most distinct division between the two strings. RPM Blast offers you great spin, but it’s a more controlled, lower-launch spin, so the trajectory remains disciplined and predictable. That makes it a great choice if you already swing with intent and want the string to keep the ball honest.

If you are looking for spin then I would go with the O-Toro Spin. The launch angle seems a little easier to access and the shaped profile helps the ball jump off the court with a little bit more shape and margin. That extra bite is a real plus for players who like to roll the ball heavy and create shape from the baseline.

Comfort and playability

If comfort is part of the decision, O-Toro Spin is ahead for me. It’s a little softer and more user-friendly and that makes a difference in both the Speed MP and the TF40 because the stringbed stays more playable for a long session. That softer feel makes the whole setup easier to live with without losing too much performance.

RPM Blast is not as uncomfortable as some very stiff polys are but it is definitely the firmer, more serious option. It’s for those who like a more involved reply and are happy to provide their own pace and technique. It feels like a string that rewards clean hitting, not covering up for it.

Durability and tension stability

RPM Blast has always been a reliable tour-style polyester, and that includes decent tension retention for a shaped poly. It’s still predictable enough for competitive players who want consistency over a few sessions, rather than a string that changes personality quickly.

O-Toro Spin is also made for performance, but its slightly softer, more open feel means that it can lose a little of its sharpness a little sooner if you hit hard and often. That said, I’d still say it’s a strong option for players looking for a livelier stringbed who are willing to restring when the feel starts to drop off.

Who each string suits

Babolat RPM Blast suits:

  • Advanced players who want firm control and a very predictable response.
  • Big hitters who already generate their own spin and pace.
  • Players who like a lower-launch, more disciplined stringbed.

Toroline O-Toro Spin suits:

  • Intermediate to advanced players looking for easier spin access.
  • Players who want a softer, more comfortable shaped poly.
  • Aggressive baseliners who want more net clearance and heavier ball flight.

Verdict

RPM Blast is the safer and more proven control choice for me. It gives both the Speed MP and the TF40 more structure and precision, which is especially useful if you like to hit big but still want to keep the ball on a tight leash.

The O-Toro Spin is the more forgiving and spin-friendly version. It’s a little easier to get on with, and offers a little more shape and comfort, which could make it a better option for players looking for a lively setup, without the firmer, more disciplined feel of the RPM Blast.

So my simple take is this: if you want the more controlled, classic tour-poly feel RPM Blast is better. If you’re after a softer shaped string with easier spin and a more playable feel, then you’ve got to try O-Toro Spin.
