Introduction
Some time back, I was asked by Toroline if I wanted to collaborate on a new string and here it is: Toroline x Tennisnerd = VAMOS.
I have always been reluctant to this kind of proposal in the past because I have been hellbent on staying as neutral as possible. But now I have decided to become a huge sellout and run the brand into the ground.
Just kidding.
I have been thinking about this a lot, and if I can have any influence on products, I would rather have it before they are made. Giving a thumbs-up or thumbs-down is fine, but I think I can bring more value by helping brands create better-defined products: who they are for, why they exist, and what problem they solve.
I have been testing tennis gear for… yeah, a long time. Tennisnerd started in 2010, and I was already testing racquets and strings before that. So it has been a while. But this is the first time I have collaborated on a product.
We will see how it goes. I hope to do more in the future, but I will, of course, be very selective. And I will stay neutral and test products as objectively as possible.

Why do this collab?
There are several reasons I wanted to collaborate with Toroline.
- Eric, who runs Toroline, is a great guy. Genuine, generous, authentic, and nerdy. This is very important for me. I am not driven by money, but by having fun, bringing value, and making connections.
- They make excellent strings. I remember testing Caviar many years ago now and enjoying it. That was in the beginning of Toroline and now they have a wide variety of strings.
- I saw a product gap. Many Toroline strings are on the softer side, which is great for arm comfort, but I did miss a slightly crisper, shaped option.
When they released A5, Eric and I started talking about creating a shaped version of it. After plenty of testing and back and forth, we landed on a hexagonal, sharp, and latte-colored string. I tested it in multiple racquets and was impressed by the ball bite, control, and tension maintenance. It also did not hurt my arm or wrist. In short: it was a winner!
What’s in a name? A lot!
Okay, the name. To be frank, it just popped into my head early on. I liked that Toroline had a version of A5 simply called “Cash” after Julian Cash. It was catchy. Anything with the Tennisnerd name would not have the same ring. But there is something I tell myself every time I play tennis and that is VAMOS. Come on! Let’s go! Rafa made it popular on the global scene and now it is a very popular phrase in tennis.

VAMOS product description
Developed in collaboration with Jonas Eriksson of Tennisnerd, VAMOS is a shaped evolution of A5 — engineered for players who want more bite and a higher launch without sacrificing the connected response that made A5 a favorite among advanced players.
Built from the same foundation as A5, VAMOS features a six-sided (hexagonal) profile in a 1.23mm gauge, designed to increase ball grip and control. Where round strings prioritize a flatter, more penetrating trajectory, the hexagonal geometry of VAMOS increases friction between the string and the ball, helping the string “grab” the ball longer and create a more pronounced spin response.
