There is just over a month until the French Open begins on May 18, and after the entry list for the men’s and women’s tournaments was confirmed, speculation is mounting over who might be potential contenders for the Major.
Carlos Alcaraz came from two sets down to beat Jannik Sinner in a thrilling 2025 final, with both players thought to be the main prospects for glory in 2026. Coco Gauff will also hope to defend the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen, although she will face competition from World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka.
Fans around the world will be rooting for their compatriots – whether that’s Arthur Fils on home soil, or those in Canada rooting for Victoria Mboko. And Canadian readers who want to back Mboko can check out the best betting bonus available to you on Canada Sports Betting.
With the countdown now on, here is a closer look at the current favorites for the men’s and women’s Majors.

Men’s Favorites
Unsurprisingly, both Sinner and Alcaraz are the top two among sportsbooks for the Coupe des Mousquetaires. The two finalists have the edge over the field, with World No. 1 Sinner at evens compared to Alcaraz who, despite winning the 2026 Australian Open, has odds of 2.38 (+138).
Just behind the duo is Novak Djokovic, who is continuing his pursuit of a record 25th Major at Roland-Garros. The three-time winner is coming off a defeat in the final of the Australian Open, but will hope to go one better in Paris.
With odds of 11.0 (+1000), the Serbian has similar odds to 2024 finalist Alexander Zverev. Lorenzo Musetti is viewed as the fifth strongest competitor; his odds of 21.0 (+2000) help to make him a potential dark horse for success after he reached the semi-finals in 2025, where he retired in the fourth set due to an injury to his left thigh.
Women’s Favorites
Aryna Sabalenka is coming off completing the Sunshine Double following triumphs at Indian Wells and Miami. The Belarusian, with odds of 3.25 (+225), is regarded as the joint-favorite for the women’s singles tournament alongside four-time winner Iga Swiatek.
Although the Pole is now only ranked fourth in the world, her form at Roland-Garros is too good to write off. The 24-year-old is 26-1 at the French Open in the last four years and, while her Australian Open ambitions ended at the quarter-final stage, Swiatek should have the confidence to bounce back on clay.
Defending champion Coco Gauff has odds of 6.5 (+550) to make it back-to-back wins, but has not been able to build on her form since winning at the tournament in 2025. The American had competitions to forget at Wimbledon and the US Open, and while she reached the final in Miami recently, the 22-year-old needs to find another level if she is to claim a third Slam.
Emerging star Mirra Andreeva, fresh off her fifth WTA title in Linz, is considered the fourth strongest competitor by sportsbooks with odds of 8.0 (+700). The Russian’s strong showing on clay bodes well after her quarter-final elimination in 2025, having made the semi-finals the year prior.
For 2026 Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina, there are doubts over whether she can lay her demons at Roland-Garros to rest after failing to progress beyond the quarter-finals. Nevertheless, after winning the second Slam of her career and strong showings at Indian Wells and Miami, there has never been a better time for the 26-year-old to upset the odds, as she currently sits at 11.0 (+1000).
