I have been testing out the Gravity MP and Speed MP recently. I will try to be as objective as I can but I have always been a Speed MP fan and it takes a lot to convince me there is a better all round racquet (it does everything). That said, if you are looking for a modern all-around performance frame, both the Speed MP and the Gravity MP are solid choices. Both weigh about 300g (although mine were both slightly under spec), are made for control with spin, and are used by advanced players who want to be balanced in all areas of the game.
Tech & specs
Head Speed MP
The Speed MP offers all round balance, speed and all-court versatility.
- Head size: 100 sq in
- Weight: 300g unstrung
- Balance: ~320 mm
- String pattern: 16×19
- Stiffness: ~60–62 RA
- Beam: 23 mm
Head Gravity MP
The Gravity MP is built around control, feel and a larger sweet spot.
- Head size: 100 sq in (rounded shape)
- Weight: 295g unstrung
- Balance: ~325 mm
- String pattern: 16×20
- Stiffness: ~59–61 RA
- Beam: 22 mm
On-Court Comparison
Power
This is where the Speed MP has the edge but it isn’t uncontrollable power. It is more with he launch angle you notice this..
- Speed MP: easier power, more depth overall
- Gravity MP: lower-powered, more controlled (but maybe a more plush feel)
- The Speed gives you more free depth, especially on defensive shots (so stable on my single handed backhand returns)
- The Gravity requires a bit more effort but you are rewarded with a little more of precision.
Verdict: Speed MP wins for power
Control
This is where the Gravity MP maybe edges it.
- Lower launch angle vs the Speed MP
- More predictable trajectory (but that isn’t for everyone)
- Better precision on groundies
- The denser 16×20 pattern and softer feel give the Gravity a more controlled response overall.
Verdict: Gravity MP wins

Feel & Comfort
Both are comfortable, but the feel is very different. I know a lot of people say the Speed MP can feel dampened and I’d agree but I love the overall balance. The Gravity does feel that bit more connected especially at the net on volleys.
- Speed MP: clean, slightly dampened feel
- Gravity MP: softer, more connected response
- The Gravity gives you more ball pocketing and feedback (but Speed MP does give you a plush feel still, we are not miles apart here)
Verdict: Gravity MP wins for feel
Spin
Both generate spin well, but I think the Speed MP edges it here although with a spin shaped string in the Gravity MP like Toroline O’Toro Octa or Restring Zero you still get decent enough spin. I tried with O’Toro Tour in both for full disclosure (good spin/control).
- Speed MP: easier spin access
- Gravity MP: more controlled spin (does depend on string choice though)
- The Speed helps you create spin more easily, while the Gravity keeps it tighter and more predictable.
Verdict: Speed MP gives you easier spin, whereas the Gravity offers more controlled spin I would say.
Pros and cons
Head Speed MP
Pros
- Easy power and depth
- Very balanced, all-round performance (it really does a good job of most things)
- User-friendly for a wide range of players (would suit intermediate-advanced)
- Good spin access in a 100sq inch frame
Cons
- Less precise than Gravity
- Slightly muted feel in comparison
- Can feel a bit too balanced for advanced players looking for all out control
Head Gravity MP
Pros
- Excellent control and precision
- Soft, connected feel (nice on volleys)
- Very stable on contact
Cons
- Lower powered vs Speed MP
- Requires more racquet head speed/cleaner technique
- Less “free” spin and depth
- Slightly less manoeuvrable (also felt less stable on backhand returns
Who Each Racquet Suits
Choose the Speed MP if you:
- Want a balanced, all rounder (think power, spin, stability and control)
- Need easy power and depth (but not in an uncontrollable way)
- Play all-court tennis
- Want something user-friendly
Choose the Gravity MP if you:
- Want maximum control and feel
- Like a softer, more connected response (at net, volleys)
- Generate your own power
- Play aggressive baseline tennis and want more control and a connected feel
Final Thoughts
The Speed MP is the safer choice for most players because it has a lot of power, spin, and ease of use, making it accessible to a wide range of players. The Gravity MP, on the other hand, is more of a “player’s racquet” to some extent. It is softer, easier to control, and more rewarding if you have good technique and can generate your own power. The Speed MP is the best racquet to go if you want something balanced that feels great from the word go. The Gravity MP is better if you want a bit more feel and crave for a bit more control.

Hi Chris! And what is your opinion about one handed backhand with Speed MP?
BTW- last article by Jonas about racket for one handers was written and video qas taken already 3 years ago, maybye an update? Cheers!
Hi Piotr, I think the Speed MP can be a good option for a one-hander yes. It’s manoeuvrable, gives enough spin and stability for most players. I wouldn’t say oit is the most traditional one-handed backhand frame, but it definitely can work well depending on technique and preferences.
I’ll chat to Jonas about an update. A lot of racquets have changed over the last few years, so a fresh look at the best options for one-handers would be really useful, I agree.
Thanks a lot for your replay, cheers Mate! :) I’m looking forward for the update.
