The Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women’s Championships presented by ecotrans Group is set to bring some top-class tennis to the island as a prestigious WTA 125 event this October. As tennis legend Gabriela Sabatini has been named the official tournament ambassador, let’s look closer at what we can expect for this tournament.

Event Overview

The WTA 125 tournament will run from October 4th–12th and feature a 32-player main draw with international participants, including some of the top players from Germany and the UK.

  • Location: The main event will be held at the Mallorca Country Club (click the link to read more from our visit there in 2022) in Santa Ponca, Mallorca. The early rounds on the opening weekend (October 4–5) will also be staged at the Polideportivo Magaluf.
  • Title Sponsor: One of this years changes is the announcement of Vanda Pharmaceuticals as the new title sponsor.

The Legend as Ambassador

A major highlight of the championships is the involvement of tennis legend Gabriela Sabatini, who has been named the official tournament ambassador. Sabatini, a former world No. 3 and 1990 US Open champion, will bring prestige to the event. As ambassador, she will support the competing athletes, hand over the trophy to the winner and participate in a celebrity padel tournament staged alongside the main competition.

Sabatini emphasized the importance of the WTA 125 level, noting, “WTA 125 tournaments are a great opportunity for young and upcoming players to build their future, and I am excited to see so much talent competing here in Mallorca.”

The organizers also commented that they “…expect a number of celebrities and former tennis icons to attend the tournament”.

Tickets are available via the tournament’s official website mallorcawomenschampionships.com.
